It’s relatively easy to blame someone else for our circumstances, or our actions and life. Often we can blame things that have happened for the issues we face now. There are some terrible situations that occur in people’s life, and it’s easy to understand how we can stay blaming our behavior and attitudes on these past situations.
However if we keep basing our life’s choices on these things then we can run the risk of using circumstances or the treatment we experienced from other people as an excuse to stay in captivity and bondage to them.
If we want to live free we must make a decision to “stop playing the blame game.” Every time we excuse our bad attitudes, fears, and inadequacies on something or someone else we give in to the temptation of blaming them for our life right now. It’s easier and it makes sense. We tell ourselves, “If they hadn’t done that; if this hadn’t happened, or if only I had been given this opportunity”
But Jesus offers each one of us a means of escape from the “blame game”. We don’t have to remain stuck in our circumstances, or the negative or disappointing issues from our past. We don’t need to remain blaming others for our inability to make good choices, or to live free.
Jesus said “I have broken the power of every evil, sickness, disappointment, mistreatment, sin, lack and bondage in your life.” For “who the son sets free is free indeed”. (John 8:36)
“The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.” (1 John 3:8)
He offers us the rescue plan (that He executed at the Cross of Calvary.) Jesus will help us break free from any bondage, if we will rely on Him and take the steps of faith and trust Him. We don’t have to remain a victim, stuck in our weaknesses and excuses for a life we don’t like. We may be weak, but God is strong. We may be broken, but God is the healer. We may wish we were different, and God says with me you can be.
But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
“Jesus looked at them intently and said, “Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But with God everything is possible.” (Matthew 12:26 NLT)
“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. (Isaiah 41:10)
The important thing is to listen to what God says, and not our excuses, our past life, or the devil’s lies. The devil will try to use our circumstances to build strongholds in our thinking and emotions.
“He’ll use whatever he can—our sense of weakness, our problems from childhood, or the wrong things we did when we were twelve years old. If the devil can darken our minds—make us think we can’t possibly win—we’ve lost. We need to keep reminding ourselves that we serve a victorious God who has provided the spiritual weapons we need to tear down the devil’s strongholds (Joyce Meyer)
God is able to help us. We don’t need to give into the temptation to blame others for our actions, or stay feeling sorry for ourselves any longer. We don’t need to live our lives stuck! Instead we can take hold of the promises of God, and what He declares about our life. Nothing is too hard for him to handle. No bondage is too difficult or too ingrained for Him to break; there is no generational curse that will not give way to the blessing of God operating in our life.
Today fix your heart and mind on the promises of God for your life. Don’t keep playing the blame game and excusing the things you don’t like, or are unhappy about in your life on others. Don’t give other people, or past circumstances that power over your future. Instead discover for yourself through reading God’s word what He says about your life? What does He say your future will be? Who does He say you are? When we begin to keep our minds and hearts turned toward Jesus, and listen to His voice, He will provide a way through every circumstance, and a means of escape to truly live free.
Prayer: Lord thank you that I don’t have to remain stuck in the “blame game”; that I am not a victim, and can live free from the trap of excusing my life and choices on others. Help me to take hold of the promises in your word, to listen to your voice and to make a decision every day to move forward to better things. In Jesus name Amen.
