your book

We are all born with a purpose and I don’t believe any one of us is a mistake. Neither does God if you take what He says in His word seriously. He says He knew us before the very foundation of the world, and “that every day of our lives was recorded in His book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.“ (Psalm 139:16 NLT)

This means that each person has a book in Heaven, and that God has written down His plan and destiny for each person. He saw our days; not just how many we will live, but what we are to do with our days, and what activities and accomplishments we will walk in throughout our lives.

Ephesians 2:10 describes us as “God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. The Greek word for workmanship is His masterpiece or poem. God first wrote down this poem that we were to become. “We are a poem with a point, and our lives carry a message that is creative and life giving” (Robert Henderson)

Anything that God has planned is first written in a book or scroll in heaven, and when we are born we begin the process of living out these purposes recorded in our own individual book.

The key is to discover and walk in what is written down in our book, and to also understand that we all have a choice as to whether we fulfil this plan or not. We can either choose to discover what is written about us in heaven and live our lives lining up with this, or we can choose to go and do our own thing. It’s our individual responsibility and choice to discover what has been written, and then it’s also our choice as to what we do with that knowledge.

However there is a point that many people miss, and that is that where this is a loving generous God who has amazing plans for our lives, there is also a devil who is evil in everything He intends for us. He has made it his purpose to divert us off our book and the words that are written in it. He knows that we are each created for something, and he tries to clutter and cloud our view and understanding so as to cause us to become so busy, confused or deceived that we don’t know where or what to do next. We’ll then just keep on plodding along, never fulfilling what has been written about us, or worse still lose our way completely.

That’s why we desperately need God to come and reveal to us our own hearts, and to stir up the things He has placed there, because whatever is written in our book in heaven is also written in our hearts. “If you want to discover what in in your book, look in your heart. Your interests, desires, aspiration, longings and passion, these are all clue to what is in your book in Heaven.” (R. Henderson)

If we discover these things, that’s when life really gets exciting. For it is not just about what we can do on our own, but about lining up our lives with what we were created and uniquely designed for.

Take the time to listen with the guidance of God’s Holy Spirit to your own heart today, as you seek to discover what is written in your book. Because we were all created for something more than what many of us have become.

“Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.” (Psalm 139:16)

Prayer: Lord please help me to listen to what you have written on my heart, and therefore discover what is written about me in my book in heaven. Then help me to begin to walk in line with what you have made me for. In Jesus name Amen.
