31 Oct -Ebb and Flow

Ebb and flow are two phases of the tide or any similar movement of water. The ebb is the outgoing phase, when the tide drains away from the shore; and the flow is the incoming phase when water rises again.

Life overall is full of this same pattern of ebb and flow and I’m discovering that for us to be truly happy and at peace it’s really important to understand which phase we are in at any particular time and to trust God works in both.

The ebb phase is when things we are hoping and believing for seem “way out there”, off shore but the stuff that we didn’t realise or we were keeping covered and hidden in our lives gets revealed, much like when rubble or rubbbish submerged under the water is revealed when the tide goes out. This can make the ebb a difficult place and perhaps even confronting, painful and frustrating as we can seriously wonder if any good is going to ever happen again.

But the ebb is just as important as the flow for what we do in the “ebb” has consequences as to how well we handle and are set up and prepared for what is coming when the “flow” brings those things we are looking, hoping and praying for come to pass. In  the “flow” we receive answers, Gods goodness and His blessing, but its in the ebb that our faith and character is formed to handle the rush of the flow when the “tide turns”.

Just as nature has its ebbs, it also at the appointment time, has its flows. God is good and promises that He will work all things together for our good. When we are in an “ebb” phase we can rest assured that He is orchestrating a “flow” phase and it will be on it’s way.
In the flow suddenlies happen. You were single and then suddenly you meet someone. You were jobless and then the job offers start flowing in. You were seeking direction and suddenly everything becomes clear. You were feeling broken or depressed and suddenly the dark clouds lift. In  the “flow” we receive answers and experience God’s goodness and blessing.

Today whether you are experiencing an ebb or loving the flow know that life is full of both. Each has its appointed time and purpose in our lives. So relax, know God is in control, trust Him that everthing is okay and go with the Ebb and the Flow.

For everything there is an appointed time, a time for every matter under heaven.” (Ecclesiastes 3)

Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you….do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid”. (John 14:27)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose”. (Romans 8:28)

Prayer. Lord please help me to remember you are in control and to trust my life is in your capable hands. Today I’m choosing to relax in the flow and to trust in your goodness to work all things for my benefit and growth in the ebb. In Jesus name amen

30 Oct – Do what you can do

images (4)
I read an article today about a man from a difficult background who was in trouble and on the run from the law. While driving in His car one day he heard a voice speaking on the radio telling him how to change his life and giving some keys on how to live better. The radio speaker  went on to tell his listeners how much Jesus loved them and bevause he did that preacher saved a young man’s life that day. Why? Because he chose to do what he could do, and listened and obeyed God’s call on his life to preach good news.

The thought that struck me as I read that article was, “what would happen if we all did what we were called and wired to do?” If we did what we could do? What if we spent our energy and brain power looking for ways to bless and help others? How many lives would be saved? How many people could we give hope and comfort to? How many hearts could we help heal and how many words of encouragement could we give if we simply did what we could do to use our gifts and talents to better the world and the lives of those around us?

No one is insignificant and no gift, helping hand or friendly smile is too small that it won’t or can’t make a difference. Through small gestures of kindness and each one of us knowing and walking in our purpose, doing our part and seeking God to be the best we can be, lives will be changed, hope revealed and darkness dispelled.

Today listen up to God’s promptings as He guides you through your day. Look to use your gifts, time and abilities to make a difference and determine to simply do what you can do, because someone out there needs you to.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23)

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Prayer: Lord please help me to be and do what I can to make a difference today. It may seems small to me but in your hands I know that small things count and nothing is ever too insignificant or unable to be used for good. Please help me to be remember that as I go through each day. In Jesus name Amen.

29 Oct – Change of season

images (3)

Change is everywhere and inevitable and if we are smart we find something to enjoy about each season and then make the necessary adjustments to our everyday lifestyle and routine.

Making adjustments and going with the season we are in is necessary for in life somewhere and at some time we will have to change and transition in response to our circumstances and relationships or suffer the consequences. Yet how often instead of going with change do we hang on to the previous season, kicking and screaming against change when its obvious its going to happen regardless.

If we look and learn from creation and how God has made things, a far wiser and gentler approach would be to follow the ebb and flow of what God is doing in and around us in the season we are in. To remember and give thanks for the previous season and to then look for ways to celebrate where we are now. There are some things for example that can only be enjoyed to the full at certain times – such as electric blankets and pumpkin soup on a cold winters day, the flexibility of being single, or the challenges and joys of relationships, study, careers, parenthood, or growing older.

Today, whatever season you are experiencing both in nature and in the rest of your life, choose to look for the joy in it, and the things you can appreciate in the season you are in; and remember God’s in charge and whether it’s one you love or hate, the seasons change and this one will pass too.

For everything there is a season. A time for every purpose under heaven”.(Ecclesiastes 3:1)

Prayer: Lord please help me celebrate the season I’m in, and to appreciate all that I can learn, discover and develop in myself and in my relationship with you and those around me at this time. In Jesus name Amen

28 Oct – Live in the moment

images (2)

Everyday is a gift and its so important to not allow ourselves to get in a distracted state of mind or heart instead of focusing on seeing and experiencing who and what is around us.

God’s word encourages us to; “Look carefully how you walk! Live purposely and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people). Making the most of the time (buying up each opportunity) because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is”.(Ephesians 5:15-17 amplified)

Living in the moment engages us with God; we are focused on Him and what He is doing and bringing across pur path. However there are also many others things crying out for our attention and we can easily miss what is right in front of us if we are not careful and focused.

When we look carefully at how we live and make the most of opportunities it involves opening our eyes to see,our ears to hear and our hearts and minds to perceive. When we are with our partner, children, family, friends or other significant people in our life, then we choose to really BE with them. To laugh with them, cry with them, listen to them, play with them, and pray for and with them.

Lock eyes with those you are with and BE with them. Turn your mind and heart to what God is doing right in front of you and in the lives of those around you. Stop yourself from thinking on 100 other things or becoming distracted on other issues, problems and people when you could be in the moment you are in right now.

Remember technology was made for man, not man for technology. Sometimes we just need to turn off our phone, shut down the computer, turn off the television, and most importantly, discipline our minds to be present. We can start to practice listening well and honoring others with our purposeful presence.

I encourage you to trust God with all the things that so often scream for your attention and time and then determine to give your life to those things that are important and not just the things that seem urgent.

Today practice living in the moment. Seize time with Jesus and don’t push him to the bottom of the list of who is important. Capture the moments with those you love and remember the importance of taking time for yourself to embrace the day and enjoy all the wonderful things in it. Live in the moment and make it worth remembering today.

Prayer: Lord help me to take some time with you today and to make moments with those I love. Please give me wisdom to understand what and who is really important. Help me not to miss those people and experiences that are right in front of me simply because I get too distracted and weighed down with things that don’t really matter. In Jesus Name Amen.

27 Oct – What are you planting?

I love how simple it is!  Plant a seed, take care of it and that tiny seed will keep multiplying and producing. Why? Because it’s designed to.

It works in every area of our lives. The Bible says in Galatians 6:7 “For whatever a man sows, that and that only is what he will reap.”

What and who we welcome (sow), and allow into our lives is what is going to be produced in our life (reap). If we allow attitudes, actions or people into our life that aren’t good or profitable for our spiritual, emotional, mental or physical health then those are the things we will start to produce in our lives. Those “seeds” will in time start to produce a harvest – either for good or for bad depending on what we have sown.

We might not like that truth, but it is the way God has designed the world to work. As you sow so shall you reap. If we mix with cheats, liars, unkindness, selfishness, immortality, greed….those are the things we are bringing and sowing into our lives.

God says to choose life and blessing and to sow those things that are profitable and good for us, because He knows that’s what our lives will start to look like. He wants us to have a life full of joy, blessing and abundant life (John 10:10).

The great part about sowing and reaping is that if we know that some of the things which are being produced in our life are not good we only need turn away from them, (which kills off that bad seed like a spiritual weed killer) and start sowing what we want to produce. Then we’ll have a harvest of what we really want in our lives.

Prayer: Lord please give me the wisdom to choose wisely the things I allow to grow and multiply in my life and what I need to apply some “weed killer” to. Thankyou that everyday I get the opportunity to sow seeds of peace and blessing in my life and can expect a harvest of exactly that back. In Jesus name amen.

26 Oct – Don’t look at the storm.

images (1)

Some friends of Jesus were once faced with such a dilemma. They found themselves in a fishing boat out in the middle of a large lake, when suddenly a violent storm erupted. Many of these men were long term fishermen, used to the water and it’s capabilities. Yet we read that even they were terrified at the ferocity of the storm, fearing they were all going to drown. Jesus however was resting peacefully in the back of the boat.  (Luke 8:22-25)

Getting to his feet, he told the wind, “Silence! and the waves, “Quiet down!” They did it. The lake became smooth as glass. Then he said to his disciples,  “Why can’t you trust me?”(v24)

When we constantly  look at the “storm” we too will become afraid and doubting. We listen to the news reports, other people, and the circumstances around us and we do just as the disciples in the boat did. We believe and listen to the noise of the “storm” and forget that Jesus is with us. Jesus reprimanded the disciples for their fear and lack of faith because He expected them to do exactly what He had done; to stand up in the midst of the wind and the rain, with the waves crashing into the boat and command the storm to be silent and still!

He still expects all who believe and follow Him to do the same. To stand up in the face of our fears, our struggles, finances, health, relationships, work and any other internal or external battle and speak and take authority over it all. We are not victims but overcomers. The key to livingblikevthat is to take heed to what we are storing in our hearts; what we are listening to and what we are looking at.

Jesus said,“if you make yourselves at home with me and my words at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon,”(John 15:7-8 The Message)

Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, “Go, throw yourself into the sea,” and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.” (Mark 11:23 NIV)

Don’t look at the storm. Look to God and what He says about your life. Store his promises in your heart, and then see what a difference only speaking and believing what He says about your life and future makes.

“ I sought the Lord, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears”.(Psalm 34:4)

Prayer: Lord today I choose to look at what you say in your word regarding my life. I want you and what you say, “in my boat” because then I don’t have to worry about the “storm”. Help me to keep my eyes and heart firmly fixed on you today. In Jesus name Amen.

25 Oct -Self-awareness

One of the most valuable assets we can have as a person is self – awareness. When we are self aware we are kinder to ourselves, know when we need a break and have greater understanding of our own strengths and weaknesses.  Self-awareness is the beginning of emotional intelligence, as we are able to “check in” to our emotions and reactions, which is hugely beneficial to our overall health and the quality of our relationships.

Here are some other benefits of being self aware:

1: We play to our strengths –While we can be competent in many areas, it is tough to be great at everything. Being more self aware allows us to focus our time and energies on what we do best. The result is we feel better about ourselves and gain the ability and perspective to love the person God has made us to be.

2: We can encourage others to play to their strengths –The world is full of talented people. When we find out how we are “wired” it also helps us to recognize how others are excelling so we can also encourage them to focus on what they do best. We don’t have to be in competition, but can compliment one another.

3We are authentically happy rather than pretending we are. Being self aware helps us to be aware of our negative thoughts and emotions and helps us to choose what we are thinking and focusing on most. The bible says, “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.” (Proverbs 23:7) Neurological studies reveal toxic thoughts are able to be “unstuck” from our thought patterns and brains and be replaced with ones we want to have. But first we need to be self aware enough to know what we are thinking about.

“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (Romans 12:2

4: We Think Before We Act. Being self aware means we are more aware of our emotions and responses. We gain the ability to act and respond consciously instead of reacting, or should I say “over-reacting” to people and events.

Today if you realize that you haven’t been in touch with your thoughts, emotions and spiritual and physical state, then I encourage you to take some time over the next few days to check-in on yourself. Ask God to reveal what has been going on in your internal world; what you have been thinking and feeling and then work through any issues that may arise and reap the benefits of a renewed self awareness.

Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1 Timothy 4:16 ESV)

Prayer: Lord thank you for who you have made me to be. Please help me to be more self aware, to work to my strengths, lean on you in any weakness and be kinder to myself. In Jesus Name Amen

24 Oct – I can’t go back

Today I realised I really can’t go back to what I knew or how I was before. Actually I’ve known that for quite some time. Gods totally messed me up for the “normal”.

So what you might ask, can’t I go back to?

I can’t go back to living driven by, and under the expectations of others.

I can’t go back to praying from down here when I know I can “go up” and see, hear and experience heaven and pray and hang out there.

I can’t go back to not expecting to see way out, weird, cool stuff that God wants to show to me. To having dreams, visions, encounters and seeing how the universe works from heavens view.

I can’t go back to doing “meetings’, leading programs and trying to keep people happy just so they won’t leave and go somewhere else.

Nope..I can’t go back. So instead I’m choosing:

To go into the unknown wherever Jesus leads, even if that looks totally unfamiliar and down right scary at times.

To expect heavenly encounters and for angel’s, the cloud of witnesses and other heavenly things to show up; for gold dust, jewels, miracles, manifestations and Gods glory to be visible and evident. That’s what I  want and is my new normal.

I’m choosing to be okay when people, even those close to us, might get a little freaked out when I share or experience something I’ve seen, heard or had revealed by Jesus. I’m choosing to be okay with that even if it means they reject or don’t understand me.

I’m choosing to keep going higher and deeper, because I’ve discovered that’s where joy and bliss are found. And joy is where we gain the strength, focus and consistency to enable us to keep running our race well with Him. It’s the joy of coming up into heavenly places, where the “air is clear and there’s no more fear”, and where all those weights, tiredness, depression and second guessing as to whether we are good enough are lifted off.

Today I encourage you that if you are standing back or remaining on the “shore” looking on at what God is doing, or you see what is possible in Him, to simply take a step forward and choose to go deeper and higher in God. Even if you haven’t got a clue how it all works, tell Him you want more and that you aren’t satisfied. Because whether you hardly know Him at all or you’ve been walking with Him for years, Jesus is saying, “come up here, there’s more”.

“It is he who reveals the profound and hidden things.” (Daniel 2:22)

He rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)

“Call to me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things“. (Jeremiah 33:3)

Prayer: Lord I want to go where you lead even if I don’t know what that looks like. I’m trusting you because I know you are good and only have good things in store for me. I’m going to step out and trust you to reveal to me things bigger, wider, higher and better than I thought possible. In Jesus name Amen.

23 Oct -Positioned for success

Success in life is largely found in preparation and walking the process. It’s in choosing to be diligent, consistent and determined to position ourselves for growth, increase and to win. Without preparation and following through on the process we can easily fail to be ready when God moves. We can even miss making the most of the opportunities He directs us to.

Unfortunately people often want to see and enjoy the rewards and “fruits of success” before they have cooperated with what it takes to be fruitful. It can be a hard lesson to learn that if we’d only dealt with an issue, stopped wasting time and kept focused on who we were made to be that we could of seen so much more unfold in our lives. We could and would of seen the “fruits of success” in our overall happiness, relationships, career and in the increase and development of our gifts and talents and the impact they made on the world.

Thankfully God loves to give second chances and is in the business of restoration and renewal. He can and will turn things around for us if we choose to cooperate with the process He has to bring us to that place of bearing good fruit in our lives and relationships.

Some things I’ve discovered helpful as we seek to lead a fruitful life are that we have to be prepared to:

1.Get out of our comfortable zone and do whatever God leads us to do. Sometimes we won’t understand fully why He is asking us to do things, but if we follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit and His word we will be positioned exactly where we need to be when opportunities arise.

The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.” (Psalm 32:8)

2. Be consistent and stick to things. In other words be disciplined. It’s in the little everyday things that we learn consistency. Spending quality time with God, exercising, eating well, being quick to forgive, being kind, making the most of what you already have in your hand and being diligent to be the best you can be, learning to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit and doing, and not just hearing what God says in His Word.

And let endurance have its perfect result and do a thorough work, so that you may be perfect and completely developed [in your faith], lacking in nothing.” (James 1:4)

If we want our “fruits of success” to grow and last it’s always best to work with a Master to get the best results. The bible says that God is like the Master gardener. He knows us better than we know ourselves, understands the process and always, if we follow His directives, get the best results. (John 15).

He sees each one of us and knows the desires and dreams in our hearts. He promises that when we put our trust and confidence in Him and His word He will lead and guide us to live a fruitful life that lasts.

Today practice listening to God and being prepared to move out of your comfort zone. Be consistent in the things you know to do and say, believing that as you seek to be that person who walks and works out the process, God will be faithful to equip, position and bring you good  success and a fruitful life.

Prayer: Lord thankyou that your plan and desire for me is to be a good winner, a success and blessed in all I put my hand to. You know exactly how to make that happen in my life so I choose to trust you today to lead me. Please help me be responsive to your promptings, to hear and follow your word, and to be more consistent today. In Jesus name Amen
