31 Jan – Choices

images (89).jpeg
I’ve been having a conversation today about choices and how we can be on the path that leads to fulfilling our destiny or we can get off track and miss some or even all of what we were made for.

It’s a scary thought that we can actually hold up or even completely miss what God has purposed for us because of our choices. Yet if you look through Gods word and through out history it is filled with both men and woman who either stepped into their destiny through wise choices and obedience to God’s calling and instruction or in contrast those who delayed, suffered severe consequences or missed it totally and ate the fruit of their ways.

A great example of the result of choices is Nabal in the bible who was a mean surly man who through his rudeness and bad attitude towards others nearly brought the wrath of the warrior David upon his whole household. Fortunately his wife Abagail was both intelligent and beautiful and was able to undo her husband’s wrongdoing and save her family. Nabal in despising God’s anointed and making a poor choice to snub David’s offer of friendship fell down dead the next day and subsequently Abagail became David’s wife and stepped into purpose and blessing. (1 Samuel 25:1-42) In contrast Nabal totally missed an opportunity of an alliance and friendship with a man destined to be King through his poor attitude and choices and consequently lost both his life and his wife.

If we are honest it is not difficult to see where a wise or foolish choice did or could have taken us. Plus the world around us freely displays those who either flourish from living wisely and thoughtfully or who stumble and fall through their own poor choices and foolishness.
The big question is do we learn from our successes and/or our mistakes and continue to make those choices that lead to breakthrough or cause us to miss it totally.

God is so gracious and will guide and speak to us through whatever means possible to lead us in the right direction. He desires each one of us to fulfill our destiny and to live joyful and prosperous lives, but He will not force His will or ways upon us. That choice is totally up to us.

Today which path are you looking at and walking on. The one that leads to fulfillment or the one which is a slippery slope to loss and death of purpose and your destiny? Choose well.

“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today that I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants (Duet 30:13)

Prayer: Lord please help me to know the right thing to do at the right time so that I would walk in wisdom and insight and live the life I was born for. In Jesus name. Amen

30 Jan – Living free

images (87)

God’s ways are different from our ways and He wants us to live free from worry and anxiety. But to live like that we have to live by His ways and not our own.

The bible is like a God’s manual for life and it has alot to say about how to deal with worry. When things come up that cause us to become anxious and worried, God wants us to seek His help.

1 Peter 5:6-7 says, “Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you, casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.

To deal with worry and anxiety God encourages us to:

1.Humble ourselves that means we have to let go of the controls and ask for His help.

2.Cast all our cares on Him. Give them over to Him and then don’t take them back. When we do that our concerns are His concern. Ask yourself “How are things working out for me doing things my way?” As long as we try to do everything ourselves, God will let us. But perhaps instead of making ourselves miserable trying to figure everything out on our own we can give them over to God to sort out. When we do that God is able to release His miracle working power into our situation.

God didn’t create us to live anxious lives only relying on ourselves all the time. He wants us to  trust Him, so we are free to do the good things He has planned for us and to enjoy His blessings as He meets our every need.

Today, why not try God’s way of doing things. Acknowledge your need, ask for His help, cast all your cares upon Him and then watch His miracle working power go to work in your life.

Prayer: Lord thank you that you care about every area of my life. Please help me to cast all my cares on you and to learn to trust you more. In Jesus Name Amen.

29 Jan – Be You

images (86)

I was recently at an event where I could easily of become intimidated by the sheer success of the establishent I was visiting and begin to doubt myself and my validity to do what I know I’m called to do and be in comparison. That’s because it’s very easy to look at others and start to feel like we have to measure up to others, even if who we are and our calling is very different from everyone else’s.

I run for exercise and enjoy it, yet if I run with others who have longer legs than me I can fall behind and end up hurting myself. I have to run at my pace, with my length strides, because if I  try to keep up with others when I’m not fit enough or physically matched to them I could begin to feel deficient and even embarrassed at my ability or lack of.

Yet how often do we do that in our lives? We are constantly tempted by the world around us through social media, advertising and just being part of society to compare ourselves. Then we unevitably try and live life how other people live it, looking how they look and moving like they move. But when we try to be someone other than who we were created and attempt to do things the same as someone else without exploring if that is the way God has planned for us, we run the risk of ending up singing “What about me, God have you forgotten about me, I don’t measure up? We can begin to doubt God’s love, goodness and unique plan and purpose for our life and to lose our peace and rest in life.

Today I encourage you to keep focused on who you are and who you are called to be. We are all blessed with our own unique destiny and purpose which no one can walk out except us.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you.
Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. (Prov 4:26-27
Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.” (Prov 4:26-27)

Prayer: Lord please help me to keep my eyes focused on who you have called me to be and not to become intimidated by others around me. That I would be free to become all you have made me to be. In Jesus name Amen.

28 Jan – Break it off

images (85)

Have you ever felt like you are shackled and weighed down under a heavy burden or yoke? Many times we can feel like we are in chains, and just can’t break free of a situation or limitation in our life.

That’s where God has some good news! He says He has broken the shackles, chains and burdens off our backs. He wants us to take hold of what He says and has done for us, and apply it to our lives. In other words we “tackle the shackle with truth!”

I love the account of Jesus setting free the demon possessed man. This wreck of a man who Jesus crossed a sea to reach, had been shackled and chained both in the physical and spiritual realm. His life had been overcome by forces of evil, and he was in constant torment; chained, and shackled in every way, with no means of escape.

Jesus arrives on the scene and instantly sees, and has compassion on this man, setting him radically and amazingly free. One encounter with Jesus changed his life forever, as every chain was broken, and every shackle obliterated. (Luke 8:26-39)

The good news is that Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What he did for that man he will do for us. The shackles and chains He broke off to set him free, he will break off of all who come to Him. Whether it is a shackle of fear, sickness, poverty, addiction, sin abuse, hurt, worry, or anxiety- whatever it is.  If God says it, you can believe it, and He says that the truth will set you free. He says you are greatly loved, and nothing can separate you from His love. He says that He came to destroy the works of the devil. That any shackle can, and will be broken when we ask Jesus into our life, and choose to believe and stand on His word.

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”(John 8:36)

We need to know how to walk in our victory, and to know who we are in Jesus. If there is anything that is raising its ugly head against what Jesus has done for us, then we can tackle it with His word, and see every chain and shackle obliterated.

Today let Jesus into every area of your life; let the truth of what He has done, and what He says about your life and future break every chain. God has a plan, and an extraordinary, joy filled life for you to live. (John 10:10) Don’t waste another minute; Tackle whatever is holding you in the shackle, and step into and walk in your freedom.

Have a listen to this great song that declares what Jesus has done for us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EtyVdC7E6Wo

“Now I will break their yoke from your neck and tear your shackles away.” (Nahum 1:3)

Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble; He saved them out of their distresses. He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broketheir bands (shackles) apart.Let them give thanks to the LORD for His loving-kindness, And for His wonders to the sons of men.”(Psalm 107:14)

For I am convinced [and continue to be convinced—beyond any doubt] that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present and threatening, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the [unlimited] love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

27 Jan – Rising to your potential

images (84)

If we want to reach our potential and be all that God created us to be, then we undlubtedly at some point have to “lift lids” in our lives. A lid being a growth point where we have to push through and past anything that is limiting or “bumping” up against our potential and the destiny God has for us.

Is your lid that you don’t stick to things or you are impatient, fearful, proud or judgmental. Do you always take the easy road and never attempt anything new? Are you short-tempered or don’t listen to wise advice?

Life really is too precious and those around us too important to not make the effort to lift the lid on our potential and ability to influence for good.

Everyone wants an opportunity. But many people want an opportunity to come to them before they start improving themselves. “When I get this happening in my life, when I have that position I’ll start growing.”

That’s doing things backwards. While others wait to see what will happen those who lift lids step forward and start taking steps NOW to grow and develop. They make choices everyday how they will act, what they will say and not say, who they will  listen to. It’s in the DAILY choices we make that bring change.

Plus when we choose to  “lift our lids” it also encourages and enables those around us to step up and to be better too.

You want the world to be a better place, your home to be full of peace and harmony, your relationships to be healthy then take a look in the mirror, seek God for his guidance and wisdom about who He says you are and are becoming and start to “Lift your Lids”

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. “(Galatians 6:9)

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might”. (Ecclesiastes 9:10)

Prayer: Lord thankyou for all that you have blessed me with. Please help me to make the most of potential and to not settle for a life that is less than what you have planned for me. In Jesus name Amen.

26 Jan – Dream space

images (83)

There’s something about living in Australia that helps us appreciate the wide-open spaces.

When you get out into the countryside, or even just to a place like the beach, hills, or anywhere where you can stand and see the horizon, there is space and with space comes the feeling of having room to breath.

Having space is something most of us crave, because when we feel that we connect with freedom.

And it’s in freedom that we find the ability to dream, to vision, imagine and unlock the deep things within our spirits, which God has placed there. It is very hard to focus in on that place if we are feeling enclosed, and surrounded by unhealthy boundaries and limitations.

God wants us to have vision: To “see”, and call those things that are not yet manifest as though they are. That is the dynamic of faith. (Romans 4:17) We are created in the image of God and we just need to take a look around us to see that He is a creative God; He had a vision for the universe.

Because we are made in His image, in His likeness we have hardwired into our very being creativity and the ability to see, and speak into reality those things that are not yet seen or manifest.

Faith is not believing in only what we can see with our natural senses, but believing that what we see within us, with the eyes of our spirits, our future, will be made manifest – that we can then see, feel, and touch it in this realm.

Every vision and dream begins with a “seed” deposited on the inside of us which needs to be tended to and acted upon to bring it to fruition. I encourage you to find some space, both externally and in your inner world so that you can reflect, seek God and see within your heart and spirit the things God has deposited there. As revelation comes you can then begin to verbalize what God has planted within you and see it come to fruition.

God, who quickens the dead, and calls those things which be not as though they were.” (Romans 4:17)

And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” (Habakkuk 2:2)

Prayer: “I pray that the eyes of my heart would be enlightened, so that I will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe”. (Ephesians 1:18-19)

25 Jan – No more excuses

0b856d2ce52d1ea0224875a569c7bb98

We can often say that we really want to do or achieve something, or that we should face or deal with a particular issue. But unfortunately many times we can postpone or put off what we could do because we are content with making excuses as to why we don’t take action.  Before we know it five, ten or fifty years has gone by yet what have we done or become in those years? Was whatever we were all busy doing worth postponing following our dreams, destiny for? It’s all too easy to sit back and look at others and say, “I could have done that, or been that, or gone there”….Well, why didn’t you?

Procrastinating and having the attitude of making excuses and “I’ll get round to it”, can cause us to miss the season and timing that God has for us and what He has planned for our lives. Often we just need to cease our postponing and making of excuses, draw a line in the sand of the years that have gone by already, breathe deeply and say, “That’s enough, I’m done procrastinating, God bring it on, I’m going to go out and live the life which you have given me!”

Today, stop what you are doing, assess where you are at, think about what you are so busy thinking and doing all the time that it is so important that it is hindering your growth and progress. Then pray and seek God for His plan, strategy and dream for your life and make a decision to stop making excuses as to why you can’t do or become all God has made you to be and just begin!

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven”.(Ecclesiastes 3:1)

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.”(Psalm 32:8)

Prayer: Lord please help me to quiet my heart and mind so that I can hear the dreams you have placed in my heart. I don’t want to live a life of procrastinating and making excuses so that I never actually live the life you have for me. Help me to seize the day today! In Jesus Name. Amen.

24 Jan – Cast your cares

images (82)

There is a verse in the bible that says  Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”(Philippians 4:6-7)

Anxiety and feeling troubled affects thousands and thousands of people worldwide. It’s like we have an anxiety epidemic. There are many things that we can be concerned about, especially with the daily reports of situations and suffering happening in the world, and in our personal lives. The trouble is if we’re not mindful and aware of how we are processing these issues, the devil will use them to cause us to worry and suffer from anxiety.

Anxiety and worrying are the opposite of faith, and if there is one thing I have learnt, it’s that worry steals our peace. This causes our stress levels to rise and eventually, if unchecked will make us sick.

More often than not our worrying is because we are not trusting God to take care of us. We doubt His love and kindness, often because we have been let down, disappointed or hurt by other people in our past, and we don’t trust anyone. Therefore we remain in control, and it’s difficult for us to trust God.

The thing is, there are some things in life we are unable to fix ourselves; the task or situation is too big. We need help, and God says He is our help.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathise with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”(Hebrews 4:15-16)

God’s ways are different from our ways, and He wants us to live free from worry and anxiety. But to live like that we have to live by His ways and not our own. When things come up that cause us to become anxious and worried, God wants us to seek His help.

23 Jan – What do you see?

images (81)

When the children of Israel were standing on the edge of the land God had promised them they hesitated and then completely stopped on their journey. Why? Because when faced with the question of how they saw themselves they were confronted with the reality of their poor self image, weaknesses and fears.

Before them was a land “flowing with milk and honey”, a good land as far as the eye could see. God had spoken, given his promises and was with them. But all of that didn’t matter because apart from a few men, all of them felt incapable of taking the next step to possess the promise before them. The inhabitants of the land terrified them and they were paralysed with self doubt and fear. They said, “we were in our own sight as grasshoppers and so we were in theirs.” (Numbers 13:33)

The reason the Israelites were so terrified to fight the giants in Canaan wasn’t because those giants were so big. It was because the Israelites saw themselves as so small. It was what they were in their own sight that defeated them.

The same can be true for each one of us. It’s what we are in our own sight that will make all the difference. If, in our own sight we see ourselves as weak and powerless, then for one the devil will take delight in running all over us and two we will never step into all that we are capable of and called to become.

How often do we miss out on the unique and special life that God has planned and created for each one of us because we don’t take the time to discover who God made us to be? Sadly some people never take the time to find out. Instead they live in fear, confusion, sickness, and complacency, far from the plan and purposes God had for them.

It’s too easy to never step into our “promised land”. We just go through life believing what the world and it’s system says about us, only ever looking at the possibilities of our “promised land” before us, but never taking any steps to enter and possess it.

If you are not strong in who you are in your own sight and see yourself as a grasshopper, you can change that.

  • Spend time with Jesus every day, and read His Word – the Bible.
  • Ask God what His plan and purpose is for your life.
  • Start to agree with what God says about you. Reject the negative words and images and visualise yourself succeeding, and being healthy and whole, and seeing your prayers answered.

Soon you will start to see yourself as God sees you; a conquering, victorious, healed, whole child of God with the power of heaven behind you.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. (Philippians 4:13)

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)

Prayer:  Lord help me to see myself as you see me. Let your Word renew and heal my heart and mind. Thank you that I am forgiven, healed, whole, victorious, and have all I need in you. I refuse to see myself as a “grasshopper” any longer, and take the steps to become all you made me to be. In Jesus name. Amen.
