Kryptonite- the substance from Superman’s home planet which when he drew near it would cause him to lose all his superpowers and leave him weak -weaker than a normal man.
I refer to Superman because when we become a new creation in Christ we become new, our old self is gone and we are a brand new person with the presence of God Himself within us. We are transformed from the normal and natural, to a supernatural, extra ordinary being. Out ofvthe ordinary things become possible as we learn and discover who we are in Him, how much we are loved and what power, wisdom, knowledge and ability is available to us.
Just check out the account of Peter and John at the temple gates who on seeing the paralysed man lying there asking for money simply stopped and said, “In the name of Jesus Christ rise up and walk.” Then taking his hand they raised him to His feet and he suddenly began to stand and then to walk and jump and leap all around them. (Acts 3)
Sounds superhuman to me, which is what we become when we come into a relationship with Jesus and begin to learn His ways and who we are in Him.
However there is some things that can get in the way and which when unchecked can hinder and limit our effectiveness, joy and freedom as new supernatural creations. Much like Kryptonite to Superman, so too are some things to our faith and new life in Jesus. Things like anger, fear, unforgiveness, being double minded in that one minute we say, “Jesus I’ll do anything for you”, yet later we refuse to work through and turn our backs on habits, mindsets and practices that He clearly says in His Word to avoid. They’re Kryyonite not because they’re any match for God’s power, but because they have the potential to undermine our confidence, effectiveness, example and witness to those around us and us seeing our goals and dreams become a reality.
Instead of walking into a situation and being able to meet the need, to have confidence that our prayers will be answered and seeing miracles and demonstrations of power released we often hesitate, and have little faith because of our lack of knowledge of what authority we have. We are more aware of our own issues, fears, inadequacies or lack of sensitivity to what God is doing in our midst because we have allowed our hearts to become hardened or settled in complacency.
But today I encourage you to stop limiting the life that Jesus died and rose again to give you. As John Bevere says, “Kill the Kryptonite” in your life and begin to deal with and eradicate those things that take from or attack your confidence and the knowledge and reality of God’s power within you and who He says you are.
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ he is a new creation. The old has passed away, behold, the new has come. (2 Corinthians 5:17)
“But the people who know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.” (Daniel 11:32)
Prayer: Lord I’m asking that you show me where I have “Kryptonite” in my life that is limiting my potential and the exercising of my authority and confidence in you and who you say I am. I want to walk instead in the love, grace and power that changes lives and circumstances for the better. In Jesus name amen
