25 Mar – Start a new chapter

Beginning a new chapter; the point where the previous part of the story has ended and the stage is set for a fresh character, story line or the opportunity to explore more deeply the journey already walked. The next chapter entails turning the page, shifting focus and moving forward.

I kinda love new chapters both in books and in life because there’s a certain excitement generated in new beginnings. Part of me wants to quickly turn the pages and find out what will happen next even though I may be feeling terrified or apprehensive at the same time.

Yet no matter how terrified, hesitant, stuck or afraid we may feel at the prospect of beginning a new chapter, our story when it comes to our lives doesn’t stop where we are currently. Life is always full of change, transition, challenges, the highs and the lows. However no matter what sort of story the previous chapters told our story isn’t over. It’s not too late to change it up, to write something completely new, to change the narrative.

Regardless of what we have or haven’t done or been to this point, our future hasn’t been set, we have choices and God always has a strategy and way through to write a different and more amazing story.

As Paul, who had a fair amount of mess-ups wrote in the Bible, “But one thing I do: “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead. I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus “. (Philippians 3:13-14)

We may have missed it or made some decisions we regret or would rather not have travelled through but whether or not we like the plot so far is not as important as what we do next. If we will allow God to help we can live and learn from the previous chapters, but then leave them behind and turn and run into a new part of our story.

Today ask yourself, “What will and can you do to begin the next part of your story?” One thing about new chapters is they are just that, new! What new thing can you do to change or enhance your story? What do you need to, start, change and take hold of to start moving towards the sort of story you want your life to tell and illustrate? 

Our future is so vast and full of amazing things that God wants to share with us…He says we were made to win, to laugh, to shout out loud and to really, really live. (John 10:10) The decision however is up to us as to whether we will listen to our hearts and the dreams that He has placed in them, believe for better things ahead and then choose every day to live out the story we were made to tell. God promises He will help us, for He is mighty to deliver us from anything that attempts to hold us back, and He promises over and over again to lead and guide us in every chapter of our lives.

I encourage you to start something new today. You don’t have to stay stuck, writing and living the same old thing chapter after chapter. Begin; take a step, look up and ahead today and discover, with God helping to write your narrative what sort of story you can tell that will make you and everyone else around you glad you got up in the morning, because when we are brave enough to begin a new chapter it inspires others to do the same.

Now, if anyone is enfolded into Christ, he has becomes an entirely new person. All that related to the old order has vanished. Behold, everything is fresh and new”. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

“Everything connected to the old life is rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life – a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you”. ( Ephesians 4:20-24 The Message)

Jesus said, “A thief is only there to steal and kill and destroy. I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of”. (John 10:10 The Message)

Prayer: Lord thank you for new chapters in life and for the freedom and opportunity you give me everyday to write my story. I’m alive for a reason so please help me not to take that for granted but to really live the life you have tor me. Help me to lay aside the past and to look ahead to my future with hope and expectation today. In Jesus name Amen

 

24 Mar – Mountain top perspective

Yesterday I had a great day visiting the Blue Mountains in Sydney, and was reminded of just how big God is as I looked at the vast and incredible scenery.

The universe is quite an incredible place and just contemplating such things as the immensity of the number of stars in the sky is mind boggling, such as if every person were to count different stars, each person would have to count over 50 billion stars without counting the same star twice.

All around us creation says “Look at how I was created, look at the infinite wisdom and insight with which I was formed. Look at the sunrise and the sunset, the ebb and flow of the tides, the rhythm of the seasons, the beauty of a newborn baby or the greatness of the heavens above on a cloudless night” “Look and see”,  creation cries out there is a God and creator of infinite love and limitless power.

God says that He knows the number of stars and calls each of them by name. (Psalm 147:4)  He know when we sit and when we rise. He knows our thoughts before we speak them and the hidden things in our hearts. He sees and knows everything, and in the midst of all of this greatness and majesty He seesm cares for and loves us. (Psalm 147:4; Matthew 10:30)

“You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways.…” (Psalm 139:2)

As I stood looking at the amazing mountain scenery yesterday I was reminded of the greatness of God and that He is more than capable of handling my every need and prayer. Sometimes its helpful to get out from under the “stuff ” we have to deal with everyday and to take the opportunity to literally stand on the mountain tops.  It quickly brings perspective of how big God is and how small our challenges are for Him to deal with.

Today I encourage you to take some time to think on just how powerful, creative, and unlimited God is. There are no limits or boundaries He cannot cross or override and there are no limits to His love.

Prayer: Lord I’m going to take some time to think about all you have done and acknowledge your greatness. Please help me to keep that in mind next time I am faced with a challenge and to remember to see things from the perspective that you are a more than capable of handling anything I may face. In Jesus name Amen.

 

 

 

23 Mar – He cares about every detail of our life

If there is one thing I often hear people say in reference to God and talking to Him in prayer it is that, “God is busy with more important things so I don’t want to bother Him with my situation or concerns”. Perhaps people think and believe this because secretly they feel unworthy and undeserving of Gods notice and care and as a result they won’t even bother to bring their requests and concerns to Him unless it is something major or their prayers are for someone else.

Which is all a bit unfortunate and not at all what God wants us to relate to Him like. Jesus taught that not even a tiny sparrow falls to the ground without Him noticing, and that He knows every hair upon our head, our thoughts before we even speak them and the hidden desires and secrets within our hearts. Nothing is hidden from His sight nor too insignificant for Him to take notice of, and He actually wants us to talk with Him, to bring our concerns and requests before Him and to share every detail of our lives with Him so that He can respond with answers, do abundantly more than we’ve asked for and build our faith and relationship with Him in the process.

This week I was reminded of Gods kindness and concern for these little everyday situations we face when I spent the day travelling around from place to place with one of our daughters as she did her job. On arriving at her first location rain suddenly started pouring down to such an extent that anyone getting out of their vehicle without an umbrella would very quickly get soaked. My daughter had to park quite a distance from her destination, had forgotten her umbrella and was busy lamenting this fact and the prospect of getting very wet when I reminded her that God cares about her getting wet, and that we can do something about the rain. Over the last few years we have been discovering afresh our authority in Jesus and how we can shift the weather, much the same as Jesus calmed the storm and silenced the wind and the waves. (Mark 4: 35-41) So if  Jesus did it then so can we. I reminded my lovely daughter of this and that it wouldn’t take long to sort the weather, as she well knew and had experienced for herself in the past. I quickly told the clouds to close up and the rain to stop and suddenly instead of heavy rain clear skies appeared and the rain stopped falling so my daughter was able to walk to and from her car all day without getting rained on at all.

Now many might say that this was just a coincidence, but I’ve seen rain stop, clouds close or open up, storms averted, fog vanish and weather patterns changed so many times now in answer to prayer as I or others speak to the elements that I don’t really believe that to be the case.

Primarily because God is interested in the smallest detail of our life. If it matters to us, it matters to Him which means nothing is too insignificant for Him to show Himself strong on our behalf. Weather changing, locating a parking spot, finding lost or misplaced items, meeting someone at an opportune moment, being healed, having wisdom in a situation or just knowing what to do and having the strength to do it are all everyday things that God wants to be involved in.

The only problem in all of this is that we often lack any expectation of God doing anything for us, believe we are unworthy or a bother and look for answers in the natural realm causing us to fail to believe and declare anything to happen supernaturally, and as the bible says, “you have not because you ask not”.  (James 4:2-3)

The littlest things in our day do matter to God. Our struggles, joy’s, wins and losses matter. He cares about a foggy day spoiling our plans or whether we stay warm and dry at work, especially if it will cause disappointment or do us harm to be otherwise. He cares when we misplace that important paperwork, can’t find a parking spot, or need a meeting or situation to go well. Sometimes things may not work out exactly as we envisage, but I’ve discovered if we maintain a great attitude, believe God will work all things out for our good and look for the “silver lining” God always comes through for us – be that instantly or at another God appointed time.

God’s timing and ways are never late and always perfect, and He wants us to learn to trust Him everyday even whilst in the middle of things and to keep expecting to see His goodness revealed in even the smallest detail of our lives, because He does care about it, because He cares about us.

I encourage you today to expect more.. go look in the bible at some of the wild, crazy stuff God does for people who are bold enough to believe and confident enough in their relationship and His promises to ask Him for what they need, desire and are believing for in their future. And remember if it matters to you it’ll matter to God because He loves and wants the best for you and nothing is too hard or too insignificant for him to answer.

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20)

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Prayer: Lord I’m believing and expecting for you to move in the big and the little things of my life. Please help me to ask and have faith in who you are, who you say I am and the authority I have in you to shift, change and breakthrough in mine and others lives today. In Jesus name Amen

22 Mar -Be strong

All of us from time to time face discouragement when things go wrong, even when we are trying to do right and we are uncertain how things are going to turn out.

That’s where I’ve learnt to turn to Gods word and to seek God for His  wisdom and strength. I’m actually  in good company, as when I read the accounts in the bible, and especially one of my favourites David, who was a man who knew how to get back up after a crisis.

In times of great distress in his life the bible says “David strengthened or encouraged himself in the LORD his God.” (1 Samuel 30:6)

One account of David strengthening himself is while he was going through a terrible time. While David and his fighting men had been away their homes had been attacked and their wives, their sons, and their daughters had been taken captive. All that remained of the city was heap of smoking ruins.

What do you do when life falls apart? Many of us probably run around in circles screaming and throwing our hands up in despair. David and his men lifted up their voices and wept until they had no more power to weep. Others complained and blamed David their leader, wanting to kill him because they were so grieved.

But this is where David stepped into the realm of the supernatural. Usually you’d think a person would get into a pit of absolute despond, and stay there for a while. David faced a choice, he could either just stand there and continue to look and see nothing but disaster and problems, or he could look beyond and see God.

David chose to look to God and was able to strengthen himself in Him, primarily because David had a personal relationship with Him; he knew God and his promises and that regardless of what He was facing God had not left him and would be faithful to walk with David through his troubles.

Which is what we can also do. Just like David we can walk in supernatural strength when the pressure is on as we remind ourselves of who we are in God, draw close to him, remember and think upon His promises and plan for our lives.

God wants all of us to live daily in the realms of His strength and the supernatural strength He gives so that we will not be constantly distracted and discouraged when pressure comes and tempted to manage in the world’s way, instead of  God’s.

When it says, David “strengthened himself” it means he was intentional, which means we too can be intentional and choose to  live in the new creation reality of who we are in Jesus. Where everyday we abide in His love and listen to his guidance as we look to Him for our strength.

Have not I commanded you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed: for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

Today make a decision to walk in God’s strength and His presence and make it a way of life. Choose to strengthen and encourage yourself in God. Prayer: Lord thank you for your promises and that you make me strong. I choose to encourage myself in you today understanding that means stepping out of the world’s way of doing things and living out who I am in you. Please help me to make that a way of life everyday. In Jesus name Amen.

21 Mar -Reality vs Truth

I read a quote today which said, “reality holds up the standard of what is, while truth lifts the banner of what could be”. “Reality encourages us to accept what is as the way things will always be. However the revelation of truth awakens the hope of something so much more”. (Lisa Bevere)

The fact is our reality does and will change because it adapts to surroundings, culture and situation.

Whereas truth stands unmoved by any of these influences and is faithful, honest, sincere and full of integrity and a foundation on which we can stand steady in a volatile and constantly changing world.

Yet how often do we allow our present reality and circumstances to dictate to us what is true? Our reality often screams at us the lie that,“it is what it is and that’s final” and then we wonder why we’ve become discouraged.

That’s why it’s so important to recognize the world’s version of reality is fleeting and moveable and will when confronted move aside for what is true. It takes someone with integrity, honesty, purity of heart and sincerity to challenge it, but the world we find ourselves in and who we often believe and think we are, must and will change when challenged with truth when it is consistent and powerful enough.

Jesus challenges peoples realities all the time – you were blind but now you see, you were dead but now you are alive. He raised the dead, healed the sick, set the oppressed free, restored dignity to peoples lives, challenged and shifted mindsets about the place of woman, acknowledged and blessed the children. He did not allow someone’s sickness, brokenness, status or worth to remain their reality if it did not line up with the truth of Gods will and plan for their lives. That negative reality suddenly became unstable in the presence of His absolute truth. The moment His presence walked down the road or into a room everything did and still does change.

The truth however always demands a decision on our part, and right now there is a desperate need for truth and beauty to be taken hold of rather than us complacently accepting some of the realities we face.

People everywhere are discouraged and afraid. They don’t know what to believe anymore. There’s been the lie that, ”this is it, this is who you are, this is what is acceptable, and the world’s just like that. As a result many have given up their search for truth and a belief for something better than what they see before them. Yet wisdom calls loudly and encourages us to refuse to accept a flawed reality as truth and challenges us to rise above the status quo and to speak and act differently. (Proverbs 8 9-7)

The question is whether we will settle for what is or believe, reach out for and stand with truth. Will you confront and change the reality of who you think you are when it does not agree with who God says in His Word you are? (Which is forgiven, free, and delivered from all fear, sickness, pain, addiction, and lack.)

Will you challenge the reality you find yourself confronted with every time you look at the news or walk out the door? Do you embrace society’s flawed version of what is acceptable, beautiful, popular and successful or do you seek to shift that reality with truth?

One look at the world will tell you that we all need to do something! To stop settling and believing a lie about ourselves, about who we are and what we are capable of, and about the state of the community we live in. It’s been done before – it started with 12 men who were once chosen by Jesus to hear and then share the truth and good news He shared, and with him those men helped change the world. They shifted mindsets, told of Gods forgiveness and spread hope and good news. They accepted, loved and ministered healing to the broken, inspired greatness in others and changed their communities.

Today imagine what you could do if you too resolved to walk with Jesus, chose to believe what He has done for you, who He says you are and what is possible, shared it with all you meet, and chose to make that your new reality? Imagine it, for you might just change the world if you do!

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2)

“Fear not for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand”. (Isaiah 41:10)

Anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun”. ( 2 Cor 5:17)

Prayer: Lord please help me to stand for truth rather than settle for a life that is far from what you have planned for me. Please help me to see myself as you do and to begin to challenge those things in and around me that are not in agreement with your will and plan. Please awaken a hope in me for a better future. In Jesus name Amen

20 Mar -Trust

I love the account of Moses in Exodus in the Bible which reminds us that God is more than capable of handling any situation or concern we may be facing. God’s people had finally been released from captivity in Egypt, they had followed His instructions and were now standing on the edge of the “Red Sea” with no way to cross. Suddenly they hear the chariots of the Egyptian army coming towards them and they were afraid for their lives and the lives of their children. They had no means of escape or defence. What are they to do? Trapped with nowhere to go stand these terrified three million people.

And that’s when trust came into play. Moses lifted his face and cried out to God “What do I do now?” The answer comes, “Do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which I will accomplish for you today. I, the Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:14) God instructs Moses to stretch out his staff over the water and then to watch what He will do for them.

The army is fast approaching, fully armed, their swords ready to cut them down or at best return them to a life of bondage and slavery. All the prayers, all the crying out to God, all the hopes for freedom, everything now hangs in the balance. But this one man Moses stands His ground and trusts. And because He trusted the waters parted, the people passed safely through on dry ground, and the ocean engulfs the Egyptian army as God accomplishes what He has promised. “I will fight for you, and you will hold your peace”.

There have been numerous times in the last few years where God has spoken to me those same words He spoke to Moses  “Do not be afraid. Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord, which I will accomplish for you today. I, the Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:14)

Trusting those words and the God who spoke them has brought me through financial difficulties and job loss,  sickness in the family, anxiety, disappointment and the threat of everything we’d worked for collapsing.

A key I’ve learnt when life is screaming at you is to write down and recount all the times when God has shown His love and care for you in the past, plus when I get to the end of my list I start recounting what he’s done for others. I remember when He has shown Himself strong for me or those I know.
I talk to those around me and ask them to tell of a time when God took care of them or moved in their life. It’s amazing when you start to talk to people how many awe inspiring, real life stories people have to tell.

It’s far easier to trust and hold my peace when I actively choose to remember all that God had brought me through and how He’s fulfilled His word to me. It gives me strength to stand and to hold my ground and my peace. Then I don’t have to fight, stress or struggle but merely listen, do what God says and relax and trust He has it all in His hands.

God wants you to know today that whatever you are facing you can bring it to Him and trust He will help you. He will fight for you and you can hold your peace because He is always trustworthy, consistent and faithful to complete what He has promised and started in you.

Today may you have the confidence to believe, the courage to act when you need to, the strength to remain standing when asked and the resolve to trust that what God has promised will come to pass in your life.  

Prayer: Lord I thank you for your word which reveals who you are and how you show yourself strong on behalf of those who love and trust you. Help me to take the time with you today so I can remember all the good you have done and continue to do in my life and that I would continue to trust and hold my peace today. In Jesus name Amen.

19 Mar – I’ve got your back!

Shepherding is a technique used in AFL to prevent a player from the opposing side gaining possession of the ball or from tackling a teammates. Normally shepherding is carried out by a player using their body to stop their opponent by using their hip and shoulder to bump another player and is normally a hard physical hit.

The more I think of it the more it sounds like Jesus and how He guides, protects, defends and helps us as our shepherd. (Psalm 23)

God made each us with a purpose and a plan and He wants us to run with it. I guess it’s a bit like “picking up a ball” in a football game and running with it to reach our goal. God promises that He will lead, guide, protect and have our “backs”. He says that He will command His angels to keep us in all our ways, and that He will watch over and coming and our going.

King David in the bible is talked about earlier in his life as a shepherd tending his herds out in the fields. He watched over those sheep, making sure they had food to eat, water to drink and safety. When a lion and a bear came to attack any of his herd David defended them and he tells how he killed both the lion and the bear. God calls David a man after His own heart, and chose this young “shepherd” boy to be the next King of Israel. (1 Samuel 17:34)

Jesus is calked our shepherd in that He protects and guides us, but He is also like the guy on the football field protecting his teammate. When a player has the ball they are protected by their team. Their job is to prevent the opposing side gaining possession of the ball by tackling or “taking them out”. The one “shepherding” uses their body to stop the opponent from reaching their team mate with the ball.

Jesus shepherds like that guy on the field. He used His body to protect us from the wicked schemes of our opponent the devil. He put His own body on the line when He went to the Cross for us.

Now He says to us run – to run your race. Pick up the “ball” – pick up your purpose, and your vision and get out there on the field of life. He promises He will be there to “shepherd us”, to obstruct any plan of the enemy when he tried to oppose us, or attempts to gain possession of our vision, our God given gifts, abilities and purpose. In actual fact Jesus says He and the angels (our other team mates) will bump – “hip and shoulder” anyone who attempts to come up against us. They have our backs, either side and they even go before us.

For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone”. (Psalm 91:11-12)

We have a lot of help. Our “shepherd” is no wimp and He’s not one to be messed with. He also says His power and presence resides within each one of us if we invite Him to, making us someone our opponent will think twice about tackling!

Today make a decision to keep running with your purpose. Don’t look to the left or the right but straight ahead. Shake off the things that so easily entangle, the sin that tries to hold you up. Hold that purpose firmly in your hands and go for it. You have the best “shepherd,” and His mighty helpers the angels as your teammates running along with you, and they don’t mess around when the other side is coming at you. They will use every tactic and strategy in the book to bump them right out of your path so you will get to where you need to be.

Choose today to not waste another minute. Fix your eyes on the goal, know you have backup and run!

Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation” (Hebrews 1:14)

Therefore we also since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross.” (Hebrews 12:1-2)

Prayer: Lord thank you that you are the best shepherd I could ever have. You not only lead and guide me, but you and the angels back me up every step of the way. Help me to pick up my “ball” – my purpose in you and run with it. In Jesus Name Amen.

 

 

 

 

18 Mar – Overcoming anxiety

I was recently flying to Sydney and happened to be seated next to a lovely elderly couple who were travelling to connect up with their cruise liner.  As I chatted with the wife I soon discovered she was very anxious about flying. A storm was building outside and as we travelled we were being jolted about by some turbulence which did nothing to alleviate her fears.

The thing I’ve learnt about flying or anything we may be anxious about is to keep a firm watch on our imagination and to take time to discern with Gods help, whether the images and thoughts we are seeing flash before our eyes are a genuine cause for concern or merely our fears and imagination taking us to unhealthy places.

The bible has some good advice in regard to this in that we are advised to take every thought captive to Jesus (1 Corinthians 10:5). Meaning if an imagination or thought comes across our consciousness we are to examine whether it rises up and is in contradiction to what God says in His Word about us or not. If our imaginations are screaming death, disaster and loss we are to seek God and His wisdom as to whether that is Him speaking a warning so we can change course or go into prayer to cut off the devils schemes, or merely our fears or the enemy trying to get us into fear and doubt.

As I chatted with my fellow passenger I was busy praying and doing what I could do to help keep her calm. I offered her my essential oils to smell, showed photos of the family to distract her and talked about all the safe travels I had experienced on planes. Plus I prayed for peace to come upon her and for angel’s to go before us to sort out the turbulence which they quickly did, resulting in an instantly smoother flight and a happier fellow passenger.

The thing is I could actually be very anxious about flying myself as my brother was killed in a plane accident. However I chose after his accident to learn to discern when its my own imagination and fears talking and when it is God speaking into circumstances. Otherwise I could very easily go through life being buffeted about by every news story, bad report, negative circumstance and my own imagination running wild. I  decided that is no way to live and I choose instead to believe God and that he has a plan for my life that far exceeds in goodness anything I can imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)

I endeavour to fix my imagination and believing upon the truth that He is a good God, He loves me and regardless of what may come against me I we will be okay. Angel’s surround me and act on Gods word when I speak it and they are assigned to protect me, so I have nothing to fear for surely goodness and His love will follow me all the days of my life. (Ps 23:6; Ps 91)

God wants us to win in life and He always has a strategy to help us overcome our fears and to pull down negativity and spiritual attack. However it does take us partnering with Him to do that, so I encourage you today to put some positive strategies, such as those mentioned above in place to be able to live your best life and to overcome negative imaginations that can easily keep us in fear and doubt.

Today continually fix your eyes and hearts on Jesus, keep your thoughts and imaginations anchored in His Word and only speak and do what He is saying and doing and you’ll be soon “flying easy”.

Surely goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever“. (Ps 23:6)

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ( Ps 91:1)

Prayer: Lord thankyou that the plans you have for me are good, and you desire to fill my life with amazing things and long life. Help me to continually fix my mind and heart upon you, your promises and your love for me today. In Jesus name Amen

16 Mar – Waiting

Life is full of waiting – from our mothers waiting expectantly for us to be born, to waiting for food, traffic lights and queues. Or watching and waiting to find that special person, waiting to hear back from a job or career opportunity, waiting to see if you made the team, waiting to be paid, waiting for other people to catch up or be ready, waiting for answers or clarity from God….waiting, waiting waiting.

However we can learn alot about ourselves while we wait. Like are we trusting God and being patient, are we being loving and kind as we wait or do we become moody, tetchy and impatient? Do we wait with a good attitude or start to lose heart and get distracted, and on the wrong path, doing unproductive and even harmful things? Do we give up while waiting or keep standing expectantly?

God wastes nothing and regardless of what is happening  (or not happening), and how long we have had to wait, I’ve discovered He is more interested in who we are – our character and what sort of man or woman we are becoming, than in what we’re usually actually waiting for. He is always good and wants to grant us the desires of our heart, but He also knows some things take a certain amount of set and when the right time for them is to arrive. Much like a baby…if it arrives too early it can be dangerous, is more stressful and is far better to arrive in 9 months rather than at 8 months when most mothers are getting uncomfortable and fed up with waiting.

God knows everything has an appointed time and rather than grumble, complain or have a bad attitude He wants us to grow in the wait, and to learn to lean on His goodness, and to trust Him even when the answer or dream looks long in coming. He forges our character in the wait and sharpens, refines and works on us like a mastercraftsman creating a masterpiece. His work is done far quicker and properly if we stay put and don’t keep running off doing our own thing or throwing a hissy fit because we think everything is taking too long.

Unfortunately from experience I’ve learnt impatient grumbling attitudes and behaviour usually hold things up. God is never in a hurry, but He is interested in us becoming all we were made to be, and He definitely, if we cooperate will use the waiting times for good in our lives.

Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.” ( Proverbs 14:29)

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”(Galatians 6:9)

Today whatever or wherever you are in life I encourage you to learn and grow in the wait. Trust God’s appointed timing and that when you have finished waiting it will be all the sweeter for the testing and proving of your character and your increased appreciation for what you have waited for.

Prayer: Lord I’m choosing to trust your appointed perfect timing and to have a great attitude as I wait. Please work in me and create a right heart and attitude in me today. In Jesus name amen
