perspective_quote.jpg
As I write this I am looking out the window some 35,000 feet (10,600 metres) up in the air on a flight to Sydney to spend some time with my husband and to celebrate being together for 30 years. (And to catch up with one of our daughters)

The thing about flying and being so high up is that you realise how small everything is from up here. The enormous road train that dwarfed you on the freeway is now a tiny speck in the distance, and houses and properties that seemed massive whilst on the ground look no bigger than a postage stamp.

It’s all of course a matter of perspective in that what appears a huge object or issue when we are up close to it quickly becomes small in comparison to the bigness of everything around it when seen through the lens of  a different perspective.

It’s like the saying I have, “if what you are stressing about or going through today is something you won’t remember in 20 years time then it’s probably not worth stressing over today”.

Most things that consume our thinking and cause us to become stressed or anxious we usually don’t even remember or think of as being significant to our lives once we move forward a little in our journey and gain some perspective. They just don’t matter anymore. The things I stressed about in my life 30 years ago when I first met my husband, I hardly remember, or if I do remember I now look back and realise God had it all under control and was directing my steps all along. If only I had relaxed and trusted Him more I would have been far more peaceful, and some things would not have been as difficult.

It’s the beauty of hindsight, but if I can learn anything from gaining some perspective, it’s that God has our life in His very capable hands and we don’t need to stress and worry. If we listen to Him, follow the directives in His Word and trust He only wants good for us, we can then go and enjoy the day and know that even if it is hard right now God will work things out for our good and that most things eventually pass and so its likely the worries of today will too.

Nothing can separate us from His love, and if we continue to seek Him first nothing can also separate us permanently from the call and purpose on our lives. We may hit a few bumps in the road, but they are just bumps and not the end of the road.

Who could ever separate us from the endless love of God’s Anointed One? Absolutely no one! For nothing in the universe has the power to diminish his love toward us. Troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven’s love”. (Roman’s 8:35 TPT)

Today I encourage you to set your heart and mind on heaven rather than the things of earth. Its from seeking after heaven that we are able to come up and out of many of life’s issues which look so big and all consuming. When we seek God’s perspective we gain much needed insight and can see that many things are but momentary trials or circumstances in comparison to the larger plan of what God has in store for us.

If you won’t really remember it in 5, 10 or 20 years then why worry and stress today and if you are facing a situation or decision that is a defining decision or moment for your life then I recommend seeking after God and what He says in His word first.  For He promises He will then guide and direct our steps and give us all the grace and strength we need to keep running our race well.

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things“. (Colossians 3:2)

We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps”. (Proverbs 16:9)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith”. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. (Matthew 6:33)

Prayer: Lord thank you that you hold my life in your hands and that you have a wider and bigger purpose than perhaps I can see right now. Please help me to see my circumstances and the decisions I make through the perspective of heaven, rather than allowing momentary struggles to cloud my view. I trust you to lead me today and to direct my steps. In Jesus name Amen
