Most people want to be successful and prosperous in life which is a valid goal and something God actually desires for us. He wants us to prosper and to be successful at whatever we put our hand to, so much so that Proverbs 13:22 says that it is a, “good person that leaves an inheritance for their children.”
Jesus said that He came that we might have a long abundant life. (John 10:10; Psalm 91) But there is also something that He instructs us clearly to do and be above all else, and that is to learn to love and to live our lives in and through that context.
Jesus said, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself. “(Luke 10:27)
Even if we were to give everything up for the poor or understood all mysteries and had great knowledge and faith that could move mountains but had not love then it would profit us nothing.
What truly matters in the end is whether we learn and live as someone who loves. There is faith, hope and love but the greatest is love. (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)
Today ask yourself how are you going in the love area? Are you seeking to love God more and to also love others? Is love your motivation in the way you live your life; in your choices, behaviours, relationships and conduct?
If not, God says we can come to Him and He will fill our hearts so that we can love like He loves. His love poured out in our hearts will move us with compassion, grace and patience just like He is.
“Because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.” (Romans 5:5)
Prayer: Lord please fill my heart with love so that I can really love like you love. In Jesus name Amen.
