21 Sept – New Hope

hope 2.png

The dictionary definition of hope is to expect, aspire, wish, aim, plan, dream, yearn, crave and to wait for and want something to happen.

Whenever we are believing for anything to happen in life then hope will be involved. Often when we think our faith is failing and we feel like nothing is happening it is not our faith but our hope that needs to be renewed and restored.

I’ve discovered that when I feel like my strength is failing and my circumstances look like they are going in the wrong direction that it’s really important that I sure up my hope because otherwise disappointment and fear will start to try and undermine my expectation and I’ll end up being temped to quit.

God’s Word actually teaches us that hope is more than a desire or wish for something to happen. Hope when and where we have God involved is a supernatural expectancy. It’s a hope that looks beyond the natural possibilities to those things that God has promised us in His Word, and the agreement or covenant He has made with us to bring it to pass. Hope like this overrides natural abilities and circumstances and begins to believe again that all things are possible.

Hope with God involved isn’t simply knowing God’s promises, it also hinges on us seeing ourselves in possession of those promises, rather than seeing ourselves without them.

If you’ve grown weary or been hit with circumstances that might be tempting you to lose hope today, don’t quit. Don’t think you don’t have enough faith to keep believing, instead sure up your hope and gain new strength to keep moving forward.

Some things that help to renew my hope when I am tempted to quit or facing discouragement are found in taking the time to:

1. Get quiet and pray. Talk to God, listen and read the bible so that you can remind yourself of what He has promised. It’s in communication with God, who is the ultimate source of supernatural hope and where we can hear from him directly that primarily restores our hope.

2. Be around encouraging people. Guard your heart and the building of your hope by surrounding yourself with people of hope and faith who will encourage you to not give up. It’s by faith and patience that we inherit the promises of God and the last thing we need is negative doubt feeders when we are believing for something to happen. (Hebrews 6:12)

3. Listen, read, watch and talk about God’s promises. Listen to messages of hope and faith. There are some great preachers who constantly inject my life with hope. The world peddles doubt and fear, but if we keep our focus on what God says it will restore our hope and expectation for good things to happen in our life.

4. Refuse to give up – When it comes to restoring hope and seeing those things that God has promised happen we have to be a bit feisty. To get our “fight on” and refuse to be distracted or to give up. Determine in your heart not to be moved by what’s in front of you, but rather be moved only by what God says.

5. Keep your love on – Our faith works through and by love. Keep short accounts, forgive, let go of offense and hurts quickly and give them over to Jesus. Don’t go to bed angry and guard your heart for its the wellspring of your life. One of the surest ways to eradicate hope is strife, anger and bitterness, so don’t be cheated out of the life God has for you by letting things crowd out the love God has put in your heart. Keep your love on!

Today I encourage you to take some time to  renew your hope because as you do you’ll gain an expectation that will keep your faith alive to bring all those things that God says are possible into your hands.

May the God of hope so fill you with all joy and peace in believing that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound and be overflowing  (bubbling over) with hope.” (Romans 15:13 Amplified bible)

“So do not fear, for I am with ; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)

Prayer: Lord please help me to restore my hope today and to keep believing for those things you have promised. I choose to forgive, to keep my love on, to focus on you and what you say about my life and to surround myself with positive faith filled people.  In Jesus name Amen.

20 Sept – For The One

for the one.jpg

There are a lot of accounts in the bible about Jesus, but the one story I probably love the most is the story of Jesus and the man who had been living in the cemetery. No one had been able to restrain him as he just broke the chains used to bind him, and day and night he could be heard shrieking and seen cutting himself with pieces of broken stones. In other words, this man was in pretty bad shape, which is when Jesus arrives on the scene having just quieted a storm and sorted some stressed disciples out. He comes up to the shore, gets out of the boat and sets the man who happened to be possessed by a legion of demons free. Then Jesus simply turns around, gets back in the boat and returns to the other side of the lake again. (Check out Mark chapter 5 in the bible for the whole story)

What amazes and touches my heart every time I think about this is that Jesus didn’t pray for, speak to or do anything else except reach out to this one man, even after all the effort he had taken to journey through a storm to get there. It was for the one that Jesus went to all that trouble. For one man He sets out on the water after a long day of people crowding around Him as they sought to hear Him teach and as he met their needs and ministered healing to them. He made the effort to travel so that he could demonstrate His great love, not for a huge crowd of people, but for the one so he could restore him to health and wholeness again.

Why? Because every single person; every man, woman and child on the planet matters to Jesus. He sees us in our weakness and brokenness; He sees us on our good and bad days. He sees the secret desires of our hearts. When we rejoice He rejoices too, when we hurt He hurts also. The bible actually says He sympathises with us in our fraility and understands our humanity. Why? Because Jesus being God came as a man, being tempted in every way just as we are, and then conquered sin so that we could be set free to live life as we were created to. (Hebrews 4:14-15).

Today whatever you are facing, whatever you are holding in your heart. Whatever you are hoping for and dreaming of, know that Jesus knows all about it. Nothing is hidden from His sight, nor is anything too insignificant for Him to care about or want to help you with. From directing us to find a car park, to facing our deepest fears and weaknesses He wants to be part of our lives, to set us free from whatever is holding us back and to guide, strengthen and comfort us in our time of weariness, need or weakness.

Just as Jesus crossed to the other side of the lake to help one man that day He will help you today. He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) What He did for that one man He will do for you. All it takes is for you to make a decision to leave the graveyard of your past and any weariness, guilt, fear and whatever else you may be ailing from today and choose to come to Jesus, because He’s right there on the “shore” waiting for you.

“Are you weary, carrying a heavy burden? Then come to me. I will refresh your life, for I am your oasis.  Simply join your life with mine. Learn my ways and you’ll discover that I’m gentle,  humble, easy to please. You will find refreshment and rest in me. For all that I require of you will be pleasant and easy to bear.” (Matthew 11:28-30 The Passion translation)

By the way, the man who Jesus set free that day went and told everyone what Jesus had done for him. He became one of the first missionaries and evangelists for Jesus and His life was never the same again. He discovered that day how much he mattered to Jesus and today wherever and whoever you are, know that you matter too.

“So the man started off to visit the Ten Towns of that region and began to proclaim the great things Jesus had done for him; and everyone was amazed at what he told them.” (Mark 5:20)

Prayer: Jesus I come to you right now and give you my life. Please would you take all the broken, weary, fearful and ugly parts of my life and transform me from the inside out. I’m coming out of the “graveyard” and choosing to follow you and the amazing life you have planned for me today. In Jesus name Amen.

19 Sept – Moving On

Forgive quickly and move on. It sounds easy enough but in reality forgiveness takes courage and effort on our part to face our hurts, disappointments, abuse, betrayal and whatever else may have occurred to cause us to be holding things in our hearts against others.

However we help ourselves most when we face our heart issues, be honest about how we feel and then actively choose for our own good and because it’s the example Jesus set for us to live, to forgive people, let go and move on. The alternative us un-forgiveness which often leads to bitterness, harm, mistrust in our relationships and can open the door to sickness in our lives.

Without forgiveness there can be no real healing of the hurt for we end up carrying un-forgiveness around with us, going over and over what others have done while the other person/s probably don’t even realise our issue, think about us, care or even remember. We don’t have to pretend we forget what they may have done but we can face it, forgive, let go and move on so that a root of bitterness doesn’t find its root in our hearts, hold us back from our destiny and steal all the new things God has in store for us.

So How Do We Forgive?

1. We choose – we have to decide to face the issue of what caused us to hold un-forgiveness in our heart in the first place and not just push the hurt aside and carry on without dealing with the issue properly. We actively look at our hurt and un-forgiveness and then choose to forgive. It’s important to understand we can’t live just by how we feel, because most of the time we won’t feel like forgiving at all. Yet God says forgive, so we forgive knowing that He asks us to do so for our own good.

It’s okay to get some help to work through any hurts, abuse or issues that just seem too painful to deal with alone. Go and talk to someone and or a professional who can walk with you through the process of facing your pain and letting it go.

2. Depend on God to help. We need His help to live a life of forgiveness and freedom. He will help us to walk in forgiveness, to let go and to move on, because He has better things for us.  The Lord recently said to me, “Focus focus focus. It’s all about focus. You can sit in your anger and resentment or look at me and let my goodness and grace flood through you.” If we look to Him, ask for His help and healing He will give us the strength and courage to forgive.

3. Pray –Pray for our enemies and bless those who curse us (Romans 12:14; Luke 6:27-28). For as we forgive we make room in our hearts for good. We overcome evil with good.

As we forgive we become more open to the goodness of life instead of looking at everything through the eyes of bitterness. Forgiveness draws good people to us, rather than repelling those people God wants to bring into our lives. Often opportunities, new relationships, ideas, creativity and answers will flow into our life as we become more open to receive, rather than being full of bitterness, anger and strife.

Forgiveness is good for us and as we choose to face our pain, forgive as quickly as we can and move on, we learn to trust God to heal and protect us. As we do this God will invaribly restore our hope and faith in humanity and reveal to us that there are actually good people still out there that He has positioned for us to meet.

Today choose to obey God’s way of doing things and live a life of forgiveness. Be set free as you move on from holding onto people’s wrongs against you and make room  for new people, places and things in your life. The world is a beautiful, amazing place. Don’t let un-forgiveness and hurts you have suffered steal its wonder from you.

Pour out all your worries and stress upon him and leave them there, for he always tenderly cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 TPT)

Trust in the Lord completely, and do not rely on your own opinions.
With all your heart rely on him to guide you, and he will lead you in every decision you make. Become intimate with him in whatever you do, and he will lead you wherever you go.” (Proverbs 3:5-6 TPT)

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6:14-15)

Prayer: Lord please help me to let go of un-forgiveness quickly and to move. I forgive those who have hurt or damaged me in any way.  I give you my hurt and anger and choose to trust you to take care of me and to heal my heart today. In Jesus name Amen.

18 Sept – When People Are Being Plain Awful

awful people

I’m going to call it as it is today….sometimes people can be plain awful. There is just no other word to explain the behaviour and conduct of others except that they are being awful.

Today I was told we weren’t enough of something…however it’s not the first time I’ve had the not enough. Actually I’ve been told some interesting things over the years, like that my husband and I are too happy. Or that I make others feel too old because I look young, or that I’m too that or not enough of something else.

The long and short of it is that when you are focusing on being and doing what God has created you for there are those who will struggle with you being you. Some may even attempt to try and take you down, to speak against you and to allow jealousy to dictate their actions. But the best way to overcome and overlook others opinions and yes awfulness, is to look to Jesus, remind yourself that He is with you and to determine to win and to just keep winning and being spectacular.

We win against our past, our hurts, other’s people’s smallness and any attacks on us as a person when we just keep seeking to love God and to be the best person we can be; to excel, explore, to push against any limitations and to face and overcome every fear.

Understand that people are people and everyone has their issues. Our battle isn’t against people – against flesh and blood, but against the devil who actively seeks to use whatever means, including other people’s weaknesses to undermine God’s plan for our lives.  (Ephesians 6:12) Don’t allow his tactics to undermine you or to cause you to modify or lessen who you are as a person. Don’t allow anything or anyone to make you doubt God’s plan for your life. You have a destiny and God says you are loved, accepted, an overcomer, a winner and able to do all things through Jesus who gives you strength. (Philippians 4:13)

Today flick off any comments or awful behaviour that you have been at the receiving end of and, “Let’s not get tired of doing what is good for at just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (Galatians 6:9 NIV)

“Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.” (Hebrews 12:1-2 NIV)

Prayer: Lord I forgive those who have been plain awful today and I ask that you would fill me with your grace, love and strength. Thank you that I can do all things because you give me strength and hold my future in your hands. I trust you to lead me into all that you have planned for me today. In Jesus name Amen

17 Sept – What Do You Have In Your Hand?

So often we discount the very thing that could be or is able to be used to create the very answer, break through and life we seek. We get used to us…our abilities, thoughts, skills, background, connections and talent and then far too often discount both ourselves and what we carry.

So today I want to encourage you to stop discounting or overlooking what you have available right now and instead ask yourself, “what do I have in my hand and am I using it?” Because everyone possesses something that God has given them. Everyone has something other people can benefit from. The question is have we stopped to recognise it and are we going to use it to the very best of our ability?

When Moses answered God’s call to go and speak to Pharaoh to tell him to let his people go free, I’m pretty sure he didn’t expect God to use the staff he carried in his hand. His staff was for shepherding sheep, not performing signs and wonders.  When God questioned Moses what he had in his hand concerning his staff, Moses probably didn’t even give what he had carried for years throughout the desert much thought. However God saw Moses’ staff  and chose to use it as a sign for Pharaoh.

The staff was used by God and turned into a snake and then back to a staff again. It was pointed at the heavens and used to bring forth sudden weather changes. It was ultimately used to part the Red sea and wipe out the whole of the Egyptian army.

Or take Samson who picked up what was available to him and with his strength a jawbone of an animal was used to defeat one thousand soldiers. A whole army had come after him, but God was with Samson and as long as Samson had holy hands and a holy heart, no army could defeat him. (Judges 15:14,15).

David a shepherd boy, anointed and chosen to be the next King was handy with a slingshot. Previously, he had used that slingshot to kill a bear and a lion as he protected his Father’s sheep, yet now that slingshot in David’s hand was the very instrument that God would use to bring victory against the giant Goliath and the whole of the Philistine army. (I Samuel 17:8-36)

You may feel like you don’t have anything in your hand today, but we all have something to offer and are able to use, especially when we come to God and are willing and choose to listen to His promptings. What does God keep saying, what desire and dreams has He placed in your heart? What gifts, abilities or even just an interest do you have? Because if we are prepared to take what we have and offer it to God He will do far more than we could ever imagine, dream of or expect. God just asks that we take what we have, be diligent with it, choose to be available and are prepared to grow and develop so as to turn that ability into a skill which He can help us to use to do mighty things. (Ephesians 3:20)

What do you have in your hand today? What is God signalling that He wants to use in you and how can you prepare and position yourself to run at your destiny just as Moses, Samson and David ran at their’s?

Don’t be afraid. Don’t discount what or who you are. David was able to run into battle because he was confident and knew what he possessed. He knew how to use that slingshot. He’d already killed a lion and a bear. He talked nothing but positive talk, and acknowledged the battle he faced was God’s and therefore God was with him. (1 Sam 17:47)

God is no respecter of persons, but of faith. (Acts 10:34). He doesn’t care where we’ve come from, who said what about us or the mess we may or may not have made. He doesn’t care about any of that, but only the condition of our hearts and our willingness to go out and be all that He created us to be, and for us to bless and impact the world with what we have in our hand.

Prayer: Lord please take what I have in my hand and everything I am and please create something amazing in and through me. Begin today Lord. In Jesus name Amen

16 Sept – Take It To Court

free from the curse.jpg

If someone commits a crime and messes with or steals what is rightfully yours, would you just sit back and do nothing? Or would you stand up, use the legal system available to you and take your case to the courts?

The question is, if we are prepared to do that in the earth’s system why are we not doing that in the spiritual court system available to us when the devil steals from us? The devil has no business messing with our lives, because Jesus defeated him when He died and rose again. But if we allow it he will try and steal from us and attempt to infiltrate our territory. He will attempt in every area of our lives to deceive, entice and try to make us think we must live under the curses of sickness, lack, addictions, brokenness and toil, instead of in The Blessing that God says is rightfully ours. (Galatians 3:13)

What we need to do is stand up and take the devil to court. Wherever we have had things stolen from us; our health, finances, family, relationships, our future, our peace and joy then we need to get hold of God’s word which is our legal document, gather our defence and bring the devil before the courts of heaven so that he will be shut down from messing with our lives and the places where we live.

The problem is that many people struggle to do this because they don’t know who they are; they don’t know that if they come to Jesus and ask him to be part of their lives, and confess their sins, that He is faithful and just to forgive them and cleanse them from all wrongdoing. (1 John 1:9)

They don’t know that every curse has been broken, and that The Blessing of heaven is theirs. (Galatians 3:13; Duet 28: 1-14).

They don’t know that by trust and faith in their covenant agreement with God they win every time! So the devil goes on stealing, killing, and destroying, constantly looking for ways to infiltrate and ruin people’s lives.

However all anyone needs do is get hold of their legal document, which is found in God’s word, and present their case, (just as you would in an earthly court of law), to God the righteous judge, in the courts of heaven.

If you know Jesus then you have access, and every right to bring your case before God our righteous judge. Jesus is our advocate in the heavenly courtrooms and His sacrifice on the cross speaks for us. (1 John 2:1) Whatever the enemy may have to bring against you cannot stand against Jesus’ finished work on the cross. Simply confess any sin, then come to God, plead your case and speak out your legal rights. The devil is judged according to our covenant agreement with God, which means that we get to take back what is rightfully ours. Take back your relationships, your health, your future, your children, your city, and your nation.

Today stand up, research your case and legal rights and authority in the Word of God, and take it to the courts!

If we [freely] admit that we have sinned and confess our sins, He is faithful and just [true to His own nature and promises], and will forgive our sins and cleanse us continually from all unrighteousness [our wrongdoing, everything not in conformity with His will and purpose]”. (1 John 1:9 AMP)

Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.” (Psalm 100:4)

“Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Prayer: Holy Spirit would you please guide me in researching and understanding my legal rights found in your Word. Teach me how to stand against the tactics of the devil and to take it to the courts of heaven to receive what is rightfully mine. In Jesus name Amen.

15 Sept – Look At The Bright Side

bright side.jpg

Today is our 29th wedding anniversary and if there is one one thing I’ve learnt over 29 of being married it is to look at the bright side of life.  This may sound obvious, but for me it did not come naturally. I am a details person and if left to my own devices I have been known to fixate on problems and to worry far too much for my own good.

However it’s the ability to look on the bright side and to realise that the things I’m stressing over I probably won’t even remember in 20 years time that has been one of my greatest lessons. Most things are as Paul says in the bible, momentary concerns and if we choose to look on the bright side. To look for the positives, on what we have learnt through our difficulties, and how we can do better next time that will give us strength and understanding to keep growing stronger and stronger as the years go by. Looking on the bright side also means recognising God’s hand upon our situations and then searching for His strategy to bring us out the other side of any trouble or pain.

We will no doubt be tougher from gaining some bumps and bruises, but we will also gain some faith muscles to show for our journey.

Today choose to look on the bright side; to look for the positives and even the smallest sliver of light that you can then head towards. God is there and He always has a way through. He promises strength and comfort for the journey, better things ahead and a  strategy to walk you out of darkness and into the light.

For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!” (2 Corinthians 4:17)

“The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” (Psalm 18:2)

Prayer: Lord thank you that anything I may be facing doesn’t have to last, and that you have a way through. Help me to look on the bright side today; to look for your hand and presence in my situation and for your strategy to overcome whatever I may be facing as I grow stronger in you every day. In Jesus name Amen.

14 Sept – Living In The Moment

take one day at a time.jpg

We’ve just waved goodbye to our fifth child and youngest teenage daughter as she heads off to her first ball. All week she’s been in preparation and organising her nails, hair, makeup, high heels and little black dress. But what her Dad and I were thinking as we waved goodbye was, “how did that happen, she was our little girl yesterday and now look at her?

Which made me reflect on the importance of living in the moment and not allowing life to crowd out what is really important in our lives.

Take for instance the fact that a child has 940 Saturdays between birth and finishing high school. 940 Saturday’s may sound like a lot but if you have or know a 5 year old, 260 Saturdays have gone by already in their life.

It’s so easy to go into automatic pilot with our lives, especially when you have kids, are busy studying or are working crazy hours at your job. If our minds are elsewhere and preoccupied during all those moments we share with others or our experiences then we’ve missed making the most of those times.

Instead I recommend trying to stay in the moment. Focus on seeing those around you, hearing them, enjoying them and understanding them. Focus on what you are doing right now.

We do seem to continually need to remind ourselves that everyday is a gift from God. Most of the things we stress about or allow our time and energy to be spent on are things we for the most part won’t even remember in 20 years time. So if it isn’t going to be significant in 20 yrs time perhaps we shouldn’t allow ourselves to be consumed or distracted by it now.

God’s word encourages us to; “Look carefully how you walk! Live purposely and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise (sensible, intelligent people). Making the most of the time (buying up each opportunity) because the days are evil. Therefore do not be vague and thoughtless and foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is”. (Ephesians 5:15-17 amplified)

Living in the moment engages us with God; we are focused on Him, His plan for our life and what He is doing and we don’t look back so often and have regrets.

Our undivided attention in the moment says we love and care. We have this one moment and then it is gone forever so I encourage you today to practice living in this moment and trust God with all the things that so often scream for your attention and time. Seek to give your life and energy to those people and things that are important, long lasting and life giving and not simply what seems urgent or attractive at the time.

Prayer: Lord help me to embrace the day and to take some time with you. To make moments with those I love and to understand what and who is really important. Help me not to miss those people and experiences that are right in front of me simply because I get too distracted and weighed down with things that don’t really matter. In Jesus Name Amen.

13 Sept – One Word

one word.jpg

One of the main ways I have learnt to trust God and to keep standing even in the face of contrary circumstances is to take hold of His word on the situation I am facing. Just one word from God believed on and spoken forth can and will literally move mountains, silence demons, shrivel up sickness, release provision and bring God on the scene. One word from God can change everything.

Simon Peter one of the first disciples of Jesus discovered the power of believing and trusting in a word from Jesus. He and his friends had spent all night fishing but had caught nothing and were returning home when Jesus called from the shore, “put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch again”. Simon was tired, probably annoyed and just wanted to go home to bed, but he chose to stop, listen and receive that one word from Jesus and it paid off.

“When Jesus had finished speaking, He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and let down your nets for a catch. ”Master, Simon replied, we have worked through the night without catching anything. But because you say so I will let down the nets. When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to tear.”(Luke 5:4-6)

Just one word from Jesus can change your life. Today I encourage you to spend some time with Him. Get to know Jesus better by reading His Words in the bible and spending time in His presence and around others who know Him too. If you are facing a situation or you are feeling afraid or unsure about the future search out and ask Him to show you the answer in His Word regarding what you need or are facing. God says He is “alert and active watching over his Word to perform it, and that the angels hearken to the word of the Lord” when it is spoken in trust and faith. (Jeremiah 1:12; Psalm 103:20)

Hold onto that one word, ask him to bring revelation and clarity into your situation and then determine to believe and trust in His love and ability to bring it to pass because when Jesus speaks it changes everything!

Prayer: Lord I know that one word has the power to change everything. Please speak to me and help me to trust in your love and faithfulness today. In Jesus name Amen.
