I recently came across an unused notebook that was quite unique. Primarily because the one using it has to write between the lines of another author. Every line on the page is constructed of tiny words which tell a story upon which you are then invited to write your own.
It’s much like God and our stories. He has written his story and plan from the beginning of time and now invites us to write between His lines our part of the story.
Yet I wonder how many people want God to write the story and for Him to only hold the pen for them? It sounds good and very spiritual but I think perhaps God also wants us to take responsibility for our part too. That He wants us to dream, believe and to use our faith to do great things, and not just sit back and miss taking part in our story which is meant to be entwined with His.
For if we sit back and don’t partner with God in writing our story it becomes too easy to negate responsibility for our life, decisions and the fulfilment of our destiny. God is the ultimate authority but He also wants us to know Him as friend and as family. To contribute our heart, imagination, thoughts, strength and uniqueness as it all unfolds. After all it was God who handed Adam the pen and asked Him to name every animal He had created. (Genesis 2:20)
Today I encourage you to have a read of God’s story found in the bible. Take a look at Matthew, Mark, Luke and John which are all about Jesus. Of the words of wisdom to found in Proverbs, or the songs and poetry in Psalms. Discover the love stories within the greatest love story ever told, the triumphs, life lessons, heroic accounts of faith, the mistakes, the overcoming and the cost of it all, can be found within it’s pages. They are God’s words entwined with other people’s experiences, heartaches, lessons and loves . And if read they will teach and guide us as God’s plan unfolds.
Take time to pray and seek God’s heart, to dream and to imagine. Pick up your pen and with Him as your writing partner begin to write your part of the story within the guidelines of the greatest author you’ll ever know. As you do God’s words will guide you, (like lines on your page), be a light to lead the way and inspire and strengthen you to keep going when the going gets tough. Oh and just so you know, He’s already written in the big plot chapters for you and with Him by your side they’re awesome.
Time to pick up your pen!
“Each of you must take responsibility for doing the creative best you can with your own life”. (Galatians 6:5)
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)
Prayer: Lord thank you that you have a plan and know all things, yet you have also chosen to make me part of your story. Please help me to listen to the dreams and destiny that you have placed in my heart so that I too can pick up my “pen” and write between the lines of your story so I can fulfil my part. I trust you Lord to lead me today. In Jesus name Amen.
