Something happened yesterday that unfortunately pierced my heart. I felt it hit and knew it had caused a wound which I would need to deal with. I know from experience that a key to living whole, healthy lives is consistently giving attention to our heart and vigilantly watching over our thought life. Stuff happens, people say and do things that unfortunately can be designed to purposely harm, or they act purely out of a lack of understanding, knowledge and sensitivity.

I’ve learnt the hard way that it is really important for us to be self aware and to recognise when something has hit it’s mark or wounded us in some way. When we feel or sense things aren’t sitting right in us we do need to take time to breath, assess what is bothering us and take it to God in prayer so we can deal with it with properly.

This morning I chose to do that and as I stopped to examine my heart God spoke to me. He reminded me that I can’t control what other people do and think, that’s their business. But it is His job and not mine to work on and make things right in other people if need be. (2 Tim 2:4)

Our responsibility is to keep focused on what is important for us and to walk in love and grace as we seek to become who God has called us to be. If we allow ourselves to be entangled in everything around us or even aimed at us, we will invariably lose focus, energy, sleep and heart. God has a higher purpose for our lives, and unless He says to go into battle, get involved, comment, defend ourselves, debate or anything else it’s vital that we let things go quickly, bring any issues and concerns to Jesus, trust Him to work and get on with what we are called to do and become.

No soldier in active service gets entangled in the [ordinary business] affairs of civilian life; [he avoids them] so that he may please the one who enlisted him to serve.” (2 Timothy 2:4)

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

Today determine to remain focused on what’s really important for you and your journey. God has a plan, a purpose and a strategy so don’t allow yourself to get distracted; listen to Him, follow the wisdom in His Word and keep running your race.

“Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win!” (1 Corinthians 9:24 NLT)

Prayer: Lord thank you that you lead and guide me in the way to live well. I’m choosing to keep my eyes focused on you and what is important today as I run my race to win. In Jesus name Amen.
