Today we are road-tripping to Dubbo as my daughter Shara Rose is performing at the annual show. We are packed with guitars, sound gear, snacks, warm clothes and anything else I can think we may need.

Over the years, I’ve discovered many unique spots to visit as I’ve chosen to venture to a new destination.

I know that road trips mean packing as lightly as possible otherwise you have to carry far too much. It’s also about looking out for the next new cafe, gallery, winery, secluded beach or picnic spot. It’s one way we have seen some of our favourites places around the world.

I think life is largely Ike road tripping. We know the general direction we want to head, but there are many places we can discover and enjoy on the journey. The secret is to know when those little surprise adventures are a lovely bonus and when they will lead to a dead-end or take us in a completely wrong direction.

Like on our roadtrips I believe Jesus always leads and guides us, and I’ve now lost count of the amount of times He has directed us somewhere that we might not have planned or expected and turned out to be a great spot and a huge blessing.

However, in life, we can hesitate to step out from the known or predictable because we get scared that we are going to make a mistake or get lost or harmed along the way. As a result, we can hesitate to follow our dreams or the gentle promptings Jesus gives us to make a move or try something new. Perhaps because we firstly don’t trust ourselves enough, and secondly, we aren’t sure of God’s leading or our ability to discern His voice.

But life is a journey, and the fear of making a mistake shouldn’t stop us from embarking on adventures and doing new things. Jesus promises He will be riding right along with us, and if we are listening and being sensitive to His guidance, which is found by stopping and listening out to Him and following his Word, we do not need to fear we will get lost. Plus, if we do make a wrong turn or take a road that leads to a dead-end, He is an expert at rescuing lost sheep. He’ll leave everything else to come to get us. (Matthew 18:12-14)

Today go out and enjoy life. Follow the dream God has already placed in your heart.

Get quiet with Him, listen and allow yourself to dream

  • Pack lightly. It’s hard to travel through life when we are carrying lots of burdens. Cast all your cares upon Him and run your race unhindered. (1 Peter 5:7)
  • Make some goals for the rest of the year, write them down. Make a vision board or wall, and then take some time to plan and act to explore and achieve them.
  • And remember, half the fun in life is not only in reaching our destination and fulfilling a dream, but also the journey it takes to get there.

Happy road tripping!

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans” (Proverbs 16:3)

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence, there is fullness of joy, at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.” (Psalm 16:11)

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

Prayer: Lord, thank you that you promise you will always lead and guide me and that if by chance I miss your voice or end up somewhere that is not going to take me where I need to go, you will always lead me back home. Please help me to dream and plan some adventures and road trips with you today. In Jesus name Amen
