15 Nov – Love In A Box

Today, I spent the day helping in the processing centre for Operation Christmas Child, an organisation that sends gifts to children worldwide, sharing the joy of Christmas. It’s like love in a box, where people fill shoeboxes with things for children to play with, wear and enjoy. See: https://samaritanspurse.org.au/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ As I checked each box, I was reminded of the power of kindness to bring change, as practising simple acts of kindness can soften a hardened heart and heal a broken one. Sadly however, many people go through the day never feeling the effects of kindness. Instead they are surrounded by negativity and hopelessness and are struggling. These people are often the people you retreat from and avoid because they seem to be grumpy all the time.  But kindness has the power to change that. It’s why God encourages us to share kindness with those around us, for kindness is who He is, and the more you know Him and let yourself receive His love the more it becomes apparent in your own life. It’s in experiencing God’s kindness that often leads people to Him. Kindness is powerful to effect change and healing in people’s lives. When you are kind, you show someone that they mean something to you. Even if they are a stranger, you’re saying, your life matters. And in people’s often hectic and harsh world, a kind word or gesture can help lift a bad mood, brighten someone’s day, give hope and open hearts up to the goodness of God. Medical studies have also found that there are considerable benefits to being kind. Not only does kindness make us and others feel good, but studies have revealed that the psychological benefits of kindness are reflected in the brain’s circuitry. Being kind increases happiness, life satisfaction, and self-esteem. It works for young and old, regardless of race, religion or social status. Today make the time to show kindness to those around you. It’s good for your health, brain, and mood, and your love in action literally has the power to change the world as you take the opportunity every day to be kind. The bible says, “Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32) Prayer: Lord, thank you for your great kindness towards me. Would you please help me share that kindness with others today. In Jesus Name Amen. Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads to repentance”. (Romans 2:4)
