I have a saying, “if what we are stressing or worrying about isn’t something we’ll remember or find significant in 20 years, then it’s probably not worth stressing over today”.
Most things that consume our thinking or cause us to become stressed we usually won’t even remember or think important once we move forward a little in our journey and gain some perspective. They don’t matter anymore because I hardly even think of or remember the things I stressed about 20 years ago, and if I do recall these things, I can also see that God had everything under control. In hindsight, I wish I had relaxed and trusted Him more because I would have been happier and far more at peace in the process.
It’s the beauty of hindsight, but if I can learn and share anything from gaining some perspective, God has our life in His very capable hands, and we don’t need to stress and worry. If we listen to Him, follow the directives in His Word and trust He only wants good things for us, we can enjoy our life and the journey much more than if we stress and worry all the time.
We can relax knowing that even if it is hard right now, God will work all things out for our good and that most of what we use our emotional and mental energy on will eventually pass, and things will turn out as God planned.
Nothing can separate us from God’s love, and if we continue to seek Him first, nothing will be able to permanently separate us from the call and purpose of our lives. We may hit a few bumps on the road, but they are just bumps and not the end of the road.
“Who could ever separate us from the endless love of God’s Anointed One? Absolutely no one! For nothing in the universe has the power to diminish his love toward us. Troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven’s love”. (Roman’s 8:35 TPT)
I encourage you to set your heart and mind on heaven and God’s plan for your life. It’s in seeking and following His ways that we overcome life’s issues, which often look a big deal and all-consuming when we’re going through them, but once we are on the other side aren't' so momentous after all.
It's when we seek God’s perspective that we gain insight, wisdom and understanding and begin to see that all we travel through is momentary compared to the larger plan God has in store for us. Even in really tough or drawn-out situations, if we keep our eyes on Jesus, He will cause us to grow and develop in some way for good…. we’ve just got to keep walking with Him.
Today determine to seek some perspective. Keep in mind that if what you’re facing is not going to be significant in your life in 20 years, then you don’t waste too much time and energy excessively stressing over it today.
Instead, in the midst of a defining decision or moment in your life, I recommend seeking after and waiting upon God and what He says in His Word. He promises He will guide and direct your steps and give you all the grace and strength you need to keep running your race well.
“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
“We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps”. (Proverbs 16:9)
“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. (Matthew 6:33)
Prayer: Lord, please help me to see my circumstances and the decisions I make through the perspective of heaven and your bigger plan and purpose for my life rather than allowing momentary struggles to cloud my view. I trust you to lead me today and to direct my steps. In Jesus name Amen
