When I bought a new Mac I couldn’t operate it using my old PC knowledge and I’ve been thinking that walking with Jesus can be much the same.
When we try to do things outside of God and His ways we are trying to use our old device; (Like my old PC). The old man/women doesn’t have it. Our old ways can’t access the things of God or successfully and consistently live like He guides us to. Yet how often do we try to bang and crash our way through life doing exactly that. We see what is possible and available to us in God’s word. We see how others are living a life of overcoming victorious faith, yet we fail to recognize we’ll need to live differently and let go of some things if we are going to be all God says we are.
If we keep reverting back to our old ways when it gets uncomfortable, we feel pressured or things are hard while still trying to live as a follower of Jesus, the gap in our life from what He says about us and our future, and what we experience will only remain and grow even larger. (See Ephesians 4:22-24; 2 Corinthians 5:17)
Therefore, “If we want a different result we”ll have to do something differently” and usually that firstly means choosing to cut the connection to our old life and way of doing things. That old person is dead and buried anyway so why are we holding onto the past?
In its place Jesus encourages us to take hold of our new life and to what He says about us. To take hold of how He says to live. Because we have open access to heavens power and possibilities, and through walking everyday with Him, Jesus will close “the gaps” in our life to who we are in Him and our everyday experience.
“His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the knowledge of Him”. (1 Peter 1:3)
Prayer: Lord show me where I have areas of my life with “a gap” between what you say about me and how I’m living. I want to connect with you where I know I have access to everything I need for life and victory. In Jesus name Amen.
