A natural inclination in most of us is that when we go somewhere, we want to fast forward the journey and the process to reach our destination faster.
However, I think God often has other ideas about how we travel on our life journey. He is not only interested in the destination but also in the process of our journey and all that we will discover along the way about ourselves and others.
As I write this, I'm on route home from being away all weekend with two of our kids, and even though it's a long way, some valuable connection time can be had on the journey if I choose to have a great attitude and think about how you can make someone else's day better.
I could want to fast forward, but from experience, there is a fantastic opportunity for some of the funniest and most memorable conversations, deep and meaningfuls and things you often will remember years later if you look for what God might be doing and revealing in the midst of what might feel like wasted time. Today if you are looking at the journey ahead to where you'd like to go in your studies, career, financial goals, relationships or achieving your goals, don't be in so much of a hurry or wish the journey and time away in favour of only reaching your destination. There is beauty and worth to be found in each stage of your journey, and you might discover some things about yourself and those close to you that will make it all worth it.
"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." (Psalm 119:105)
"There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens”. (Ecclesiastes 3:1)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for the purpose of everything, and every day is an opportunity to get to know you and those around me better. Please help me to have joy in the journey. In Jesus name Amen.
