One moment, you’re driving through a barren landscape, and then suddenly, the view shifts to flourishing vineyards and green fields. Life can feel the same—unchanging, then in a moment, everything transforms.
Maybe you’ve been waiting for a breakthrough—a shift in your relationships, career, or health. Then, as if a switch has been flicked, doors open, and what once weighed you down suddenly lifts.
It's I guess why God reminds us in his Word to keep going, for at the right time, we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9). It’s our job to keep planting; to stay consistent doing what we can, but it's God’s job to cause the growth (Luke 8:5).
The Power of a Suddenly
One key to remember when it comes to God's suddenlies is the power of our praise, especially when circumstances say otherwise. God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3), and it's often in those moments that breakthroughs happen.
Paul and Silas were wrongly imprisoned, yet they chose to sing and praise God. Then, suddenly, a great earthquake shook the prison, the doors flew open, and their chains fell off (Acts 16:25-26). That’s the power of God’s suddenlies—He moves unexpectedly, in ways beyond our understanding.
A Testimony of a Suddenly
My Mum who was a nurse for many years, experienced quite a few miracles firsthand. One such miracle is when she was tending to an elderly woman’s badly cut toe. turning to gather supplies from her trolley beside her she then turned to tend the wound it was completely gone. No cut, no scar—just smooth, healed skin. Another nurse gasped, “It’s a miracle.” The woman smiled and pointed heavenward, “He did it!”
Expect the Suddenlies of God
All through the Bible is accounts of how God often moves suddenly. Jesus arrived suddenly. The Holy Spirit came upon the disciples suddenly (Acts 2:2). Paul was transformed on the road to Damascus suddenly (Acts 9:3). Chains broke, healings happened, storms calmed—all suddenly.
Whatever you face today, be encouraged—God is the God of suddenlies. Just as Peter sat in prison awaiting trial, then suddenly an angel appeared, his chains fell off, and he walked free (Acts 12:7), God is preparing your breakthrough too.
Even if nothing seems to be changing, keep trusting, keep praising, and keep looking ahead. Because when God moves, everything can shift in an instant.
Whatever you are waiting for today, be expectant. Because suddenly, everything can change.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33)
“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying.” (Luke 2:13)
“And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.” (Acts 2:2)
“And suddenly there was a great earthquake so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bands were loosed.” (Acts 16:26)
A Prayer for Suddenlies
Lord, thank you that you are the God of suddenlies. Please help me to trust and praise you, even when I don’t see the change yet. I know you are working behind the scenes, preparing breakthroughs, healing, and open doors so I am choosing to praise you through difficulty and trust that you will move suddenly at the right time. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
