I was recently flying to Sydney and happened to be seated next to a lovely elderly couple who were travelling to connect up with their cruise liner. As I chatted with the wife I soon discovered she was very anxious about flying. A storm was building outside and as we travelled we were being jolted about by some turbulence which did nothing to alleviate her fears.
The thing I’ve learnt about flying or anything we may be anxious about is to keep a firm watch on our imagination and to take time to discern with Gods help, whether the images and thoughts we are seeing flash before our eyes are a genuine cause for concern or merely our fears and imagination taking us to unhealthy places.
The bible has some good advice in regard to this in that we are advised to take every thought captive to Jesus (1 Corinthians 10:5). Meaning if an imagination or thought comes across our consciousness we are to examine whether it rises up and is in contradiction to what God says in His Word about us or not. If our imaginations are screaming death, disaster and loss we are to seek God and His wisdom as to whether that is Him speaking a warning so we can change course or go into prayer to cut off the devils schemes, or merely our fears or the enemy trying to get us into fear and doubt.
As I chatted with my fellow passenger I was busy praying and doing what I could do to help keep her calm. I offered her my essential oils to smell, showed photos of the family to distract her and talked about all the safe travels I had experienced on planes. Plus I prayed for peace to come upon her and for angel’s to go before us to sort out the turbulence which they quickly did, resulting in an instantly smoother flight and a happier fellow passenger.
The thing is I could actually be very anxious about flying myself as my brother was killed in a plane accident. However I chose after his accident to learn to discern when its my own imagination and fears talking and when it is God speaking into circumstances. Otherwise I could very easily go through life being buffeted about by every news story, bad report, negative circumstance and my own imagination running wild. I decided that is no way to live and I choose instead to believe God and that he has a plan for my life that far exceeds in goodness anything I can imagine. (Ephesians 3:20)
I endeavour to fix my imagination and believing upon the truth that He is a good God, He loves me and regardless of what may come against me I we will be okay. Angel’s surround me and act on Gods word when I speak it and they are assigned to protect me, so I have nothing to fear for surely goodness and His love will follow me all the days of my life. (Ps 23:6; Ps 91)
God wants us to win in life and He always has a strategy to help us overcome our fears and to pull down negativity and spiritual attack. However it does take us partnering with Him to do that, so I encourage you today to put some positive strategies, such as those mentioned above in place to be able to live your best life and to overcome negative imaginations that can easily keep us in fear and doubt.
Today continually fix your eyes and hearts on Jesus, keep your thoughts and imaginations anchored in His Word and only speak and do what He is saying and doing and you’ll be soon “flying easy”.
” Surely goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever“. (Ps 23:6)
“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ( Ps 91:1)
Prayer: Lord thankyou that the plans you have for me are good, and you desire to fill my life with amazing things and long life. Help me to continually fix my mind and heart upon you, your promises and your love for me today. In Jesus name Amen
