It’s really a massive responsibility that we have been given to choose how our life is going to play out, yet everyday we get to choose. Every move we make, every word we speak, every incline of our hearts and every reflection of our thoughts, we get to choose it all.
And in amongst all that choosing God’s quiet, still voice whispers, “You can do things your way – I’ve given you free will to do that, but I do know a better way. A way where the dreams and desires in your heart I will fulfil in a way that you couldn’t even imagine. A way where as you walk in forgiveness you will gain the freedom and peace that you so often crave. It’s a way where you walk away from temptation and know my grace to sustain and strengthen you as you do. It’s a way where you often are asked to remain silent even when being slammed by those around you, because I am God and I will always have the last word. A way where you learn that I will protect, guide, provide and care for you if you would only trust and walk in my ways.”
And then He leaves us with the decision – Our way or His.
But as I often discovered when faced daily with this choice – how does my way work out for me anyway? Because many are the occassions I try to do things my way and end up stressed, frustrated, disappointed and often angry at the world and everyone in it.
So I choose His way… I choose His way when today I chose to keep on running and to remain silent when I saw the rubbish inspectors out and about and I was tempted to get mad and let them know what I thought of them poking about in my bins.
I choose to forgive when people are hurtful because that is the better way; to deal with my hurts and to remain hopeful even when the discouragement pulls hard to tempt me to give in. I choose to look ahead, to forget the former things, to let go of the past and to choose His will and His way over mine. I aim to choose Jesus everyday and for Him to do whatever He wants to do in my life, because His way and His will for me is always going to be better. I choose to keep on learning to trust Him and to let His Kingdom come in my heart.
Today, I encourage you to choose life and God’s way for you. It doesn’t mean it’ll always be smooth sailing, but you will stay afloat, you will reach your destination and you will have a life that far surpasses anything you could achieve alone.
Have a listen to this song by Bryan and Katie Torwait – “Your will, Your way” to encourage you to trust and choose His way today.
“Who is the man who fear the Lord? He will instruct him in the way he should choose.” (Psalm 25:12)
“I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order the you may live, you and your descendants.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
Prayer: Lord please help me to let go and to allow you in to all the places in my heart. I want you to rule and reign in my life, so I choose your will and your way today. In Jesus name Amen.
