There is something about the name of Jesus! All limits are off when it comes to Jesus and understanding that His name is above every name, and that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow. (Philippians 2:10) Sickness must bow, poverty must bow, lack, strife, division, brokenness and every form of evil must bow it’s knee and make way for Jesus. At the very mention of His name things change, and all things are possible.
I found that truth out for myself when my husband and I were staying with friends and I became very ill with a virus in which my throat was terribly and painfully inflamed. I had been praying and was becoming quite desperate with the pain. In the midst of my suffering I heard God speak to me in my heart, and tell me to speak aloud the name of Jesus. At that time I was very quiet and quite timid in the expressions of my faith. I kept in the background and tried to be noticed as little as possible. But at the directions of what I felt was God speaking to me I quietly whispered Jesus’ name. “Say it again and louder”, I heard the Holy spirit say. I looked around at my husband and our two friends chatting quietly at the kitchen table. I was a visitor in their home, what would they think? But once again I heard, “say Jesus’ name out loud”. So I spoke the name Jesus. Not just once, but three, four, five, up to ten times, each time getting a little louder until I was literally shouting the name Jesus!
My husband and friends looked at me, but I explained, “it’s okay, I’m just being healed”.
We then travelled to our next destination with me huskily speaking Jesus’ name over and over. As I walked through the door of our hotel and began to unpack I felt a sudden relief, and then healing washing through my whole body and throat, and I was completely healed.
I had discovered the power of Jesus’ name.
Many people have made Jesus’ name a word they use when annoyed or angry, but that’s because they don’t understand just how much power and authority there is in that name. At the name of Jesus all hell trembles, and all of heaven comes to attention. Angels spring into action when Jesus’ name is used by anyone who believes in Him and who He is. And at His name demons flee.
In the bible we read about Peter and John who were followers of Jesus. These were uneducated, everyday men…. but they had been with Jesus. They had received a revelation of the power of the name of Jesus. They had handed out the bread and fish after Jesus had multiplied them. They had sat at the table with Him, and walked and talked with him. However even Peter and John had no conception of all that was in Jesus’ name, until on coming upon a man who had been lame from birth, they had the faith to say, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.” And as Peter took him by the right hand, and lifted him up, immediately his feet and anklebones received strength, and he went into the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God. (Acts 3:2)
Jesus wants us to know that at the mention of His name every thing must change. Everything must be mended, restored, healed, and provided for. How? Through Jesus’ name; through faith in His name; and through faith that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. (Hebrews 13:8) What Jesus did for me, he will do for another; how he healed the lame man, he will do for all who ask in His name. How He provided for, and fed so many He will do again. (Matthew 14:13-21)
“Truly, truly, I tell you, whoever believes in Me will also do the works that I am doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:12-14)
“If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7)
There is power in the name of Jesus, and everything must and does change at the mention of His name.
Today, right now, take the opportunity to come to know the one whose name is Jesus. There is no other name in heaven or earth through which mankind can be saved and set free. Right now you can ask Him to forgive you, and cleanse you of all your wrong doing, and to make you a new person.
“Salvation exists in no one else, for there is no others name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved”. (Acts 4:12)
“Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation”. (2 Corinthians 5:17-18)
