The Power of Asking
This week, I’ve been reflecting on the concept of asking—specifically, asking in a way that seeks an answer or insight. It’s a fundamental part of our lives, but when it comes to asking God, it often gets complicated. We may struggle to ask because we’re unsure of God’s heart toward us or doubt His willingness to respond favourably. Sometimes, we get caught up in thinking that our requests are too trivial or that God is too busy. But if we look at what's written in the Bible, it’s clear that God invites us to ask, and He’s eager to respond.
Personal Experiences of Answered Prayers
Over the years, I’ve witnessed incredible things happen when I’ve earnestly and expectantly asked God for something. I prayed specifically for the type of man I wanted to marry, and God provided beyond my expectations. I asked for children and was blessed with six.
I’ve seen miraculous healings after praying and personally experienced God do exceedingly more in both my life and others I've prayed for. I've experienced financial provision when I’ve asked for help. I’ve asked for opportunities to travel, and my family has journeyed to places like New Zealand, Thailand, the UK, Italy, the USA, and Canada. Even in the everyday moments—finding a parking spot, getting the best deal while shopping, or asking for directions (I ask for that a lot :) or wisdom—I’ve seen God move when I simply ask.
Scriptural Assurance of God’s Response
The Bible says in Philippians 4:6-7 (TPT), “Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ.”
Overcoming Hesitations to Ask
God longs for us to bring our requests to Him, no matter how big or small. Instead of worrying or striving, He invites us to delight in Him, seek Him first, and ask! Psalm 37:4, Matthew 6:33, and Ephesians 3:20 remind us that when we delight in God and align our desires with His will, He fulfils our requests in ways that exceed our imagination.
Aligning Your Requests with God’s Will
Today, take a moment to consider what you really want to ask for. Ensure your requests align with His Word, then boldly ask, knowing that if it brings you joy, peace, and blessings, it’s likely in line with your loving Father’s desires for you. Ask in faith, trusting that God hears you and delights in answering your prayers.
Letting Go of Worry and Simply Asking
Philippians 4:6 encourages us, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.”
And in 1 John 5:14-15, we’re assured, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”
So, instead of worrying, getting discouraged, or running yourself ragged trying to handle everything on your own—why not simply ask God?
Prayer: Invite God into Every Detail
Prayer: Lord, thank You that You love to answer my requests and that when I ask, it will be given. Today, I’m asking for [insert your request]. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
