23rd April - "Before You Worry— Remember What God Has Already Done"

There’s an older movie called 50 First Dates that carries a surprisingly powerful message about love, memory, and consistency.

In the film, a man named Henry falls in love with a woman named Lucy, who lives with short-term memory loss. Every morning, she wakes up having forgotten everything that happened the day before—including him. But Henry doesn’t give up. Instead, he records a video for her to watch each day—something to remind her of their love, their life, and that she is safe.

As I reflected on it, I realised something: we can be a bit like Lucy with God sometimes.

We can have spiritual memory loss sometimes.

We wake up and forget who Jesus is .We forget what He’s already done in our lives. We forget the prayers He’s answered, the miracles He’s worked, the times He carried us when we couldn’t stand. And instead of waking up in the safety of remembrance, we start our days full of uncertainty, wondering where Jesus is or if He’ll show up again.

Why? Because what’s right in front of us feels louder.

The stress. The delay. The “why is this taking so long?” season.

But here’s the thing: God hasn’t changed. And He hasn’t stopped working.

Even back in the garden, Adam and Eve got caught up in forgetting the goodness all around them. One little “you don’t have that” from the enemy distracted them from everything they did have.  And instead of focusing on the abundance they had, they became fixated on the one thing they didn’t.

That forgetfulness opened the door to doubt, deception, and fear. If they’d just remembered God’s faithfulness—His love, His voice, His care—they could’ve shut that lie down so fast.

When we forget what God has done, it's so easy to lose our footing. But when we remember, we regain perspective. Faith grows. Peace returns. Joy rises.

So today, pause. Reflect. Remember and create space in your life that reminds you of what’s already true—what God has already done. You might need your own “video moment” like Lucy.

Write it down. Speak it out. Text yourself if you have to. Remind yourself of who God is—and all the ways He’s already come through.

If you can’t think of one borrow someone else’s story. Borrow one from the Bible. Borrow one from a friend. Because if He did it once, He’ll do it again.

Action Steps for Today:

  1. Write a mini gratitude list of past breakthroughs, even the small ones. Choose three things God has done for you and reflect on them.

  2. Text a friend and ask: “When’s a time God came through for you?” Let their story stir your faith.

  3. Pick a Bible story of a miracle and re-read it like it’s your own reminder video.

  4. Create a ‘God’s done it before’ note in your phone that you can add to and revisit often

    Think and Say:

    • ““God has been faithful to me before—He will be again.”

    • “I choose to remember what He’s done rather than fear what I can’t see.”

    • “I choose to remember His faithfulness over my fear.”

“Forget not all His benefits… who forgives, heals, redeems, and crowns your life with lovingkindness.” — Psalm 103:2–4
“I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.” — Psalm 77:11 (ESV)

Prayer: Jesus, Thank You for every moment You’ve walked with me, even the times I've forgotten. Please help me to remember Your goodness today. Remind me of Your faithfulness and kindness; of the ways You’ve moved before, and give me faith to believe again. I choose to trust You—not just because of what I hope to see, but because of what I’ve already seen. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.

God has been faithful and He still is now. (If this encouraged you, share it with someone who needs the reminder—and follow along for more weekly encouragement.)
