Last night we were travelling late on some country roads when we noticed the sky outside full of stars. It was so amazing that we chose to pull over, get out of the car, and just stand on the road gazing up at the canopy of stars lighting up in the night sky.
Some things just need us to pause and take time in the moment. Otherwise, we can diminish or even miss what God wants to share, like us stopping late at night on a country road to give space and time to look up at a sky long enough to realise how incredible the stars are. We'd all been handed a special gift that was there all along for us to enjoy; we only needed to take hold of it and recognise it for what it was.
We may not be able to change the past, but we can make choices to make the most out of today and the moments in it so we can hold them in our hearts and memories as we move forward.
An easy place to start creating the habit of "seizing the moment" is when something significant happens in our days, such as a beautiful night sky, a sunset, time with our family, birthdays, anniversary, or a special date on the calendar.
Choose to make it a moment instead of rushing past or through it all because amongst our "making moments", we are building a culture and mindset of thankfulness and wonder, and it's catching.
I've discovered that when we value and seek to make moments in our lives every day, we see life around us as far more beautiful and worth stopping for, and others start to change the way they think, too – like the group of us staring up at a starry, starry night sky. There is so much to be thankful for and amazed at in life.
God sees your life as a gift to you and those around you. When we seek to "make a moment", no matter how simple it is, we'll see God is there too. He is amid our joy, laughter, amazement and celebrations and in us being thankful.
Today take the opportunity to "make a moment." Press pause if you need to, and be thankful for the little gifts that God sends your way. Life will look so much better as you do.
There is a calmness to a life lived in gratitude - a quiet joy."
"This is the day the Lord has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it". (Psalm 118:24)
"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning." (James 1:17 NKJV)
Prayer: Lord, thank you for my life and the daily moments you give me. Please help me take notice and not miss all the blessings you have for me just because I am too busy. Thank you for this day. In Jesus Name, Amen.
