26 Oct – Stop Underestimating God

To underestimate someone is to underrate, think less of, and misread them. We can underestimate ourselves, other people and situations. We can also underestimate God.

Moses, a famous leader in history, led several million people out of captivity in Egypt to the land God had promised them. The Israelites story is renowned because God did the impossible to fulfil his promises to them.

However, they are also known for their repeated complaining and underestimation of God. Even when God parted the waters of the Red Sea so that they could all walk through on dry land, brought water forth from the rock to quench their thirst in the desert, provided manna from heaven to feed them, and caused their clothes not to wear out, they still underrated and thought less of God’s love and supernatural ability to care for them than they should have.

When the people grew tired of eating the manna God had provided for them in the middle of the desert, they started talking about how it was better back in Egypt because they wanted to eat meat.

So Moses began to try and figure out how he was going to feed all the people. He asked God, “Shall flocks and herds be slaughtered for them, to provide enough for them? Or shall all the fish of the sea be gathered for them to provide enough for them?” (Numbers 11:22)

Moses believed it couldn’t be done even though he had previously seen God do amazing, awe-inspiring things. God replied, “ I will give you meat, and you shall eat it..for a whole month you shall eat it.” For has the Lord’s arm been shortened? Now you shall see whether what I say will happen or not.” (Numbers 11:20;23)

God’s provision resulted in flocks of quail flying into the camp to provide their meat for 30 days. There was so much meat that the Israelites grew tired of eating it.

The message God sent was,” Stop underestimating me and what I can do”,

Our reasoning does not limit God. What He says, He will do.

Whatever you need today, God wants to be your source and supplier. You don’t have to figure out how God will get it to you in your natural mind. Put your faith into gear, believe that what God says in His word is true, and position yourself to receive.

Today let’s stop reasoning and underestimating God and instead choose to believe that God is able to do what He says and then get ready to receive.“My God supplies all my needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)“Now to Him who is able to (carry out His purpose and) do superabundantly more than all that we dare ask or think (infinitely beyond our greatest prayers, hopes, or dreams), according to His power that is at work within us.” (Ephesians 3:20 AMP)

Prayer: Lord, please forgive me when I underestimate and underrate you, and help me to remember that you have more power in your whisper than all the power in the universe. Help me lift my expectations, know and receive the promises in Your Word, and position myself every day to receive. In Jesus name Amen
