We can often get into the habit and mindset of waiting to praise or get excited about something until we can see the breakthrough. We sit back and wait.
However the bible teaches us something quite different. It says don’t wait until you can see the manifestation before you believe you have it and begin to praise. Don’t wait, because when we believe we’ve received when we’ve prayed we begin to praise God now!
1 John 5:14-15 says, “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.”
We can depend on God, and the promises of His word, but a key to receiving these promises is learning how to pray with praise. Thanksgiving and praise according to God’s word are integral parts of prayer. “Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God’. (Philippians 4:6)
Praise is more than just nice words, or platitudes. Praise is powerful and a force. It silences our enemy, lifts our perspective and gives us strength. (Psalm 8:1-2; Matthew 21:16)
In actual fact according to God’s word praise and strength are one and the same thing. When we praise we gain strength, so if you want to be strong learn to praise!
Personally I think it’s a great idea to have a praise dance or shout. (I have my own little Irish jig happening.) When we have a favourite sporting team or something we get excited about, most of us don’t just sit on the lounge doing nothing. In our house when our team scores a goal, and better still wins a game we praise and give thanks; we shout, jump up and down, clap, wave our footy teams scarfs, and hoot and make a noise.
If we can get excited about these and other things in our lives we can certainly praise God and get excited about claiming our victory in Jesus, and receiving the answers to our prayers.
When we pray and declare God’s promises our faith is activated. Then praise must be put to work – “with supplications (asking) and thanksgiving (praise) we make our requests to God.
We praise as part of our prayer life, because we know that God’s word is true. We praise because Jesus has won the victory for us, and we just have to walk it out; we praise because God is faithful and He has ordained praise to silence our enemy. We praise because it lifts our eyes and perspective above our circumstances onto God. We praise because it makes us strong. We praise because when we do it releases supernatural power and the force of our faith. We praise because we win!
If you find it difficult to praise, or you aren’t familiar with it then start by getting the Word out and reading (preferably out loud) the Psalms, which speak of God’s goodness, His mighty exploits and power, His mercy and His grace. Listen to praise music and get around others who know how to praise and be encouraged by them.
Praise is powerful and instead of remaining under our circumstances it will put us over them.
“I will tell of the Lord’s unfailing love; I praise him for all he has done for us.” (Isaiah 63:7)
“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him and bless his name.” (Psalms 100:4)
“Out of the mouths of babes and nursing infants you have perfected praise.’ (Psalm 8:2; Matthew 21; 16)
Prayer: Lord thankyou that you have ordained praise to silence my enemies and to bring me strength. Help me to praise you because in praise I have the victory. You are faithful to your promises, and when I ask I receive. In Jesus Name Amen.
