29 Aug - Never Underestimate a Penny: How God Shows Up

How often do you find yourself waiting for the big miracles, the monumental breakthroughs, or the grand answers to your prayers. You set your eyes on the horizon, hoping to see a mountain moved, a sea parted, or a dream come true in a single moment.

But what if the real beauty and growth in us lies not just in the mountaintop moments but in the seemingly insignificant, everyday blessings that God sprinkles along our journey?

Take, for example, the story of George Mueller, a man known for his unwavering faith in God’s provision. George once prayed earnestly for a large sum of money to support the many orphanages he ran. As he prayed and believed, a small boy approached him and offered a penny. Now, it might have been easy for George to overlook the penny, dismissing it as a tiny drop in the vast ocean of what he needed. But instead, he thanked God for it. He celebrated the penny as a sign of God's faithfulness, believing that it was a seed from which greater provision would grow.

Incredibly, George Mueller cared for 10,024 orphans during his lifetime, and provided educational opportunities for the orphans. He established 117 schools which offered Christian education to more than 120,000 children. Many times, food donations would arrive unsolicited just hours before they were needed to feed the children, further strengthening his trust in God's care.

But George Mueller never asked for financial support or went into debt, he trusted that God would provide for the five orphan homes he built, which cost in the 1800's over £100,000; today that amounts to £10,497,305.71 or twenty million, three hundred eighty-eight thousand, three hundred ninety-one dollars)

Or consider the story of Elijah, who prayed fervently for rain after a long drought. Each time he prayed he sent his servant to look toward the sea, but he would return with nothing but a report of clear skies. Yet, on the seventh time, the servant saw a cloud the size of a man’s fist. It wasn’t a storm; it was barely even a hint of rain. But Elijah knew that the small cloud was enough—he recognized it as the beginning of the answer to his prayers. Elijah thanked God for the tiny cloud, knowing that from that small sign, an abundance of rain would come.

These men of faith teach us a powerful lesson: Don’t disregard the pennies or the tiny clouds. Give thanks for them and let them boost your faith and believing.

When we are waiting for something big, it’s easy to overlook the little things that God is doing in our lives. We might disregard the small wins—the penny that seems too insignificant or the cloud that looks too small. But it is in these moments that God calls us to open our hearts and eyes to the seeds He is planting, the beginnings of what He is bringing into our lives.

Every little blessing, every small win, every "penny" moment is a reason to give thanks. Each one is a reminder that God is at work, even when we can't see the whole picture. It’s in the small, often overlooked moments that our faith is strengthened. When we thank God for the pennies, we train our hearts to trust in His goodness, even in the waiting.

Don't Overlook The Pennies or the Tiny Cloud

So, the next time you find yourself longing for the big breakthrough, or feel like giving up, pause and look around. Maybe there’s a "penny" you’ve overlooked, a tiny cloud you’ve dismissed. Give thanks for it. Praise God for the small wins and the little blessings because they are a sign that He is with you, working all things together for good. (Romans 8:28)

Today keep believing, keep standing, and keep thanking God for every single penny and every tiny cloud. Because from these little things, big things grow. And in every little win, there is the beginnings of miracle answers, and a reason to rejoice.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for every blessing, big and small. Please help me see Your hand in the little things, be grateful for every step forward, and remember to trust that from small beginnings, You bring great things. That I would keep my heart full of gratitude and my eyes fixed on You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
