God wants us to ask Him for help and then to be ready for His answer in the way He provides (which is often different from what we may have expected).
We don’t want to end up like the man who was stuck on his rooftop in a flood. He was praying to God for help but failed to receive it.
He prayed for help and soon a man in a rowboat came by and shouted to the man on the roof, “Jump in, I can save you.”
The stranded man shouted back, “No, it’s OK, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me.” So the rowboat went on.
Then some people in a motorboat came by. “They shouted from the motorboat, “Jump in, we can save you.”
To this, the stranded man said, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.” So the motorboat went on.
Then a helicopter came by and the pilot shouted down, “Grab this rope and I will lift you to safety.”
To this, the stranded man again replied, “No thanks, I’m praying to God and he is going to save me. I have faith.” So the helicopter reluctantly flew away.
Soon the water rose above the rooftop and the man drowned. He went to Heaven. He finally got his chance to discuss this whole situation with God, at which point he exclaimed, “I had faith in you but you didn’t save me, you let me drown. I don’t understand why!”
To this God replied, “I sent you a rowboat and a motorboat and a helicopter, what more did you expect?”
If you are struggling or you recognise you always have to do everything by yourself I encourage you to ask for help and then be open to God’s answer.
The reasons we don’t ask for and receive help are often the exact reasons that have and will continue to keep us stuck in our problems, hurts, habits, and struggles while all along God has better for us, and help is readily available.
God is faithful, and He doesn't leave us alone. Help is on our doorstep, only a prayer away, and God sends us what we require in many shapes and sizes. The key is to recognise it and then determine to let that help in.
I encourage you to lay aside going it alone today. God promises, "He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." (Psalm 46:1).
He is our help, comfort, and peace and promises to lead and guide us. This means help from heaven is knocking at your door today, so why not let it in.
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." (Matthew 7:7-12)
Prayer: Lord, thank you that your help is available for me in every season and circumstance of my life. I don't ever have to walk alone, for you promise to be with me all the ways of my life and send help and support through others. Please help me to recognise your help when it is on my doorstep and to let it in and thank you, I don't have to walk alone anymore. In Jesus name Amen
