Yesterday I left my phone charger behind and had to watch as my phone went slowly flat. Flat batteries are annoying at the best of times as we lose connection and the ability to easily communicate and receive information. Added to that is the problem of often not being sure of where I’m going or the best route to take because I cannot access my map app.
Everyday life is much the same as my phone battery, in that we can easily disconnect from our power source and run out of “battery power” too. Primarily because we are designed to stay connected to our Creator who gives us what we need to live the life we were made for. God is the one who “powers up” and feeds information to our internal world and gives us the ability to effectively receive wisdom, revelation and be able to communicate well with both Him and the people around us. For, “in him we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).
Without remaining connected to our life source we can quickly run out of steam and become weary. We might be able to run on yesterday’s “power” and revelation for a short time, but eventually we’ll notice some functions aren’t working in us. Our “heavenly map app” can’t download directions properly, our conversations with God keep breaking up and our behaviour with others is affected because we are running on empty and have less and less to give.
Today I encourage you to be aware of whether you are running off yesterday’s power, wisdom and revelation or are you daily choosing to remain vitally connected to your heavenly life source? It’s an important question and one which Jesus advises us to be aware and diligent over because He knows that without that connection with Him we can effectively do nothing.
“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me…Yes, I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:4-5 NLT)
Prayer: Lord please forgive me when I attempt to do things outside of the way you have designed me, which essentially causes me to malfunction. Help me today to remain vitally connected to you so that I can fulfill all that you have for me to be and do today. In Jesus name amen
