5 April – All things work together for good!

All things work together for good?

That’s not saying that everything is good. Some things that happen in life are definitely not in the “good” category.   God’s saying rather that all things are turned by Him for good.

And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28)

There is a great promise in those words, but it’s not for just anyone. The promise is for those who love God. It is Him that turns all things for good, it is Him that makes our “lemons into lemonade”, our weaknesses and failings into strength and triumph. But outside of knowing God, His love and His plan and purposes for our lives there is indeed great room for pessimism.

When people don’t allow God and His wisdom and power in their lives they shut out His goodness fully operating in their lives. He longs to show grace to all mankind, but many deny Him access.

If we can look from the perspective of Jesus on the cross we can understand God’s desire to turn suffering, loss and disappointment around for our good.  He was whipped, beaten, mocked, falsely accused and endured the most horrific death.

Why? For us, because that’s what Gods love looks like. He went through so much for us, why do we often think He would withhold any good thing from us? (Psalm 84:11).

Nothing is impossible for him. No matter how awful it looks if we continue to love Him, to follow His lead, He promises He will not only get us through, He will make good will eventuate.

He has made everything beautiful in its time” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

“The Lord will perfect that which concerns me” (Psalm 138:8)

And do not grow weary whole doing good, for in due season we shall reap a harvest if we do not lose heart” (Galatians 6:9)

Today if you are feeling weary, beaten about or have some battle scars, take heart. God promises if we continue to keep walking and loving Him, He will make all things work out for our good.

Prayer: Lord thank you that you bore all my pain, grief and sorrow. You carried it so I don’t have to. Forgive me when I still try to do life separate and independent from you. I trust and thank you that you bring good from every circumstance. Help me to see that. In Jesus name. Amen.
