Have you ever felt like life is just one long, exhausting struggle? Like no matter how much effort you put in, you're always flapping your wings, trying to stay in the air, but never really soaring?
Jesus never intended for us to live that way. He said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30 NIV)
That doesn’t mean we sit back and do nothing—it means we learn His way of doing life. His way leads us beside quiet waters and green pastures. His way refreshes our souls (Psalm 23:2-3). His way teaches us how to move in step with Him, not striving, but flowing.
Take the albatross, for example. With the largest wingspan of any bird—stretching between 2.5 to 3 meters —this incredible creature can glide effortlessly for hundreds of kilometers on just a single flap. How? By catching the wind. The albatross doesn’t fight against the air; it locks its wings in place and lets the wind carry it.
That’s the kind of life Jesus offers us. A life where we can be lifted and sustained by His strength and grace and carried along by His Spirit. We don't have to fight all the time, but learn how to flow along in His strength and do things His way. When we align ourselves with Him—trusting His leading, following His rhythms, and letting Him carry what we were never meant to bear—we stop flapping so much and start soaring.
So maybe today, instead of striving, you take a breath. Instead of pushing harder, you lean in. Instead of flapping furiously, you stretch out your wings, lock into His flow, and let the wind of His Spirit carry you.
Think and Say...
I am learning to live in the flow of God’s grace and ability
I don’t have to struggle—His ways are light and easy.
I trust Him to carry me where I need to go.
"He refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake." (Psalm 23:3 NIV)
"Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." (Galatians 5:25 NIV)
Prayer:
Lord, I don’t want to live a life of constant struggle. Please teach me to move in and follow Your ways, to trust Your leading, and to flow with you. Thank You that You refresh my soul and guide me on the best path for me. Please help me to stop flapping and start flowing in Your grace today. In Jesus' name Amen.
