Our world is full of constant chatter and opinions, which are often very loud and as a mum of a big, family, I know firsthand how hard it is to escape noise and busyness to find some quiet.
If you walked into our house, you'd probably hear music or a device playing from some corner, laughter or a spirited discussion echoing through the rooms, and kids engaged in everything from impromptu jam sessions to wild wrestling matches. With five of our six children home things are loud, lively, and full-on.
But if I’m going to hear from God, and not get caught up in the anxiety, opinions and the worlds' stuff around me, I have discovered you have to be intentional about firstly focusing your mind and heart on Him and what He says in His Word throughout the day and then daily carving out time with Jesus; to have those moments of silence and seeking His voice, His Word and His presence.
The great thing however is God isn’t waiting for us to find perfect silence. He meets us our real-lives where He chooses to speak to our hearts in the small, intentional moments of focus we carve out—even if it’s just sitting quietly with a cup of tea, putting our phones down for a bit, opening up his Word or taking a walk or run in the fresh air where we are reminded of just how big he is. God’s peace doesn’t need an empty house or completely cleared schedule to meet with us, He only wants us to cultivate a willing heart and a desire to meet with Him.
So, as you go through your day, don’t be afraid to press pause on the noise around (and inside of you.) Let go of the negative chatter in your head and the constant pull of busyness. Turn down the noise, let go of your worries, take a deep breath, and remind yourself that Jesus is right there, waiting to speak to you.
"He promises that we will be kept in perfect peace when we fix our minds and hearts on Him" (Isaiah 26:3 NLT)
'Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.' (Jeremiah 33:3 ESV)
Prayer: Lord, help me make space for You in the middle of my busy life. Let me hear Your voice guiding me, and help me stay focused on Your purpose for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
